The Trap Street Gazetteer
A variant of this artifact has existed for just about as long as there have been published maps. The name ‘trap street’ comes from the cartographical practice of putting fake streets and towns on maps in order to discourage plagiarism; the Gazetteer ostensibly appears to be merely a collection of all of those imaginary locations. What makes it a powerful magical artifact is that while ‘The map is not the territory’ may be true in the field of General Semantics, in that of sympathetic magic it’s self-evident nonsense.
