Mother Jones(!) warns us of the ecological evils of… marijuana production.

So I got ‘turned on,’ as the kids say*, to this article by Mother Jones on the ecological menace found in marijuana production – what?  No, seriously, that’s what the article is about.  Here, take a look:

To meet demand, researchers say, the acreage dedicated to marijuana grows in the Emerald Triangle [an area in California known for illegal pot growing] has doubled in the past five years. Like the Gold Rush of the mid-1800s, this “green rush,” as it is known locally, has brought great wealth at a great cost to the environment. Whether grown in bunkers lit with pollution-spewing diesel generators, or doused with restricted pesticides and sown on muddy, deforested slopes that choke off salmon streams during the rainy season, this “pollution pot” isn’t exactly high quality, or even a quality high. “The cannabis industry right now is in sort of the same position that the meatpacking industry was in before The Junglewas written by Upton Sinclair,” says Stephen DeAngelo, the founder of Oakland’s Harborside Health Center, a large medical marijuana dispensary. “It simply isn’t regulated, and the upshot is that nobody really knows what’s in their cannabis.”

Few things are as obnoxious as a Commie pretending to be Green.

The Federalist today took one of the more tin-eared Twitter-Commies to task on just this point today, and it makes for compelling reading.

When the Berlin Wall came down and the Iron Curtain was finally lifted to expose the inner workings of communism to Western eyes, one of the more shocking discoveries was the nightmarish scale of environmental destruction. The statistics for East Germany alone tell a horrific tale: at the time of its reunification with West Germany an estimated 42 percent of moving water and 24 percent of still waters were so polluted that they could not be used to process drinking water, almost half of the country’s lakes were considered dead or dying and unable to sustain fish or other forms of life, and only one-third of industrial sewage along with half of domestic sewage received treatment.

Quick! What does ‘Green’ mean to *you*? That’s right: ‘Poor quality!’

My colleague and buddy Steve Maley has already ripped apart this latest cry-for-intervention from Robert F Kennedy Jr., but I wanted to drill down on this one, um, ‘point’ of Kennedy’s:

A peer reviewed National Academy of Sciences report shows that the label “energy efficient” on a product actually makes it less likely that self-identified conservatives will purchase that product. Why? Because morally twisted right wing orthodoxy has taken the “conserve” out of conservatism. Craven hatred of all things environmental has made the labels “clean,” “green” or “efficient” pariah among GOP acolytes.

Actually, wait, I know this one.  It’s a good guess – and by ‘a good guess’ I mean ‘an argument in favor of the thesis Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. huffs glue‘ – but, no.
