The gist: Hasbro’s happily giving ground on who can use the rules, because what it really wants is the ability to instantly win any revenue sharing dispute or contract negotiation with smaller TTRPG companies. Guess what? Under these rules, it got it.

Hasbro buys D&D BEYOND for 200 million gold pieces.

Assuming that a gold piece is worth about $74, that is. Your mileage may vary. Besides, I’m not gonna get hung up on the exact conversion rate for a lame joke:

Hasbro recently announced that it is set to acquire D&D Beyond, which is the biggest and most popular digital toolset and game companion for the fantasy adventure franchise Dungeons & Dragons. D&D Beyond has been owned and operated by Fandom since 2019, and they built it up to be the leading role-playing game digital toolset on the market with close to 10 million registered users.

Hasbro will purchase D&D Beyond for $146.3 million in cash, and it will “further strengthen Hasbro’s capabilities in the fast-growing digital tabletop category while also adding veteran talents to the Wizards of the Coast team and accelerating efforts to deliver exceptional experiences for fans across all platforms.”

Game of the Week: the Hasbro Stranger Things Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game Starter Set.

(Via Nerdbastards) The Hasbro Stranger Things Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game Starter Set is old school D&D, by the way. The kind that they would have been playing in the 1980s, in other words. Ain’t nostalgia marketing grand? They’ve finally worked their way around to pandering to me.

So I got sent this via email; and it is worth the six minutes of lifespan that you will spend to watch it.

It is my fervent hope that we go through a retro period where stop-motion is cool again, thus giving some of these people a shot to, you know, get paid for stuff like this.
