Back to using the damned iPod again. And it was working fine! …And then they did an upgrade to this Apple Music thing. Here’s how to get rid of it, more or less:
Yup, the iPod that I bought with your generous contributions showed up this afternoon… which is good, because the old iPod decided to jump out of my hands this morning and say hello to the sidewalk.
I’m debating what to do about that, actually. It will still work with a new glass cover, but replacing it is not cheap. At the same time, I don’t want to just casually throw it away. It seems… wasteful.
That glass is tough… but damn, when those things go, they go.
This is not a “I need money for a new iPod” post*. This is a “I suddenly have a new, time-consuming chore to take care of today” post. Ah, the holidays… Continue reading So, yeah, I have a shattered iPod screen.
…the more I wish that they’d just put a 3G card in it or something. I don’t really need an iPhone, but I could use a smaller version of the iPad that doesn’t need wi-fi to work.
Yup, I’m using the iPod now. Kid is taking a bath, you see. In some ways it’s almost easier to use this device than it is to use a larger one…
What is up with that? I mean, it’s the same item, right? Are the white cases made from blind monks in their hidden marsh* temple, or something?
Still: very pretty. And SMALL.
*Have you seen the rents on hidden mountain temple sites? – Besides, all the good locations are locked up.
So my current iPod pretty much lost its battery capacity a while back; it whimpers and dies when I take it from the car to the house. Thus, I’m looking for a replacement: specifically, I’m looking at this sucker – Apple iPod touch 8GB (4th Generation) – Black – Current Version. It turns out that, thanks to people hitting the Amazon.com link a goodly bit (thanks, by the way) and a low incidence of hitting the bank account recently, I can pretty much cover a used version of this. The big question is the difference in capacity between the 8GB and the 32GB version; does this iCloud thing make that effectively moot?

I AM NOT GOING TO BUY A ZUNE. I AM NOT GOING TO RECOMMEND THAT PEOPLE BUY A ZUNE. I AM NOT GOING TO APPROVE ANY COMMENT THAT RAMBLES FOR HALF A PAGE ABOUT HOW YOU SHOULD BUY A ZUNE. I HATE ZUNES NOW, AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE. SO BUY AN Apple iPod touch 32 GB (4th Generation) NEWEST MODEL, INSTEAD. HECK, BUY ME AN IPOD: IT’S NOW ON MY WISH LIST. ARE YOU HAPPY NOW, ZUNE-MAKERS? DO YOU WANT TO ESCALATE THIS FURTHER?
THEN STOP SPAMMING MY COMMENTS SECTION. IT. WILL. NOT. WORK.
PS: Why, yes, I do feel better now. Thank you for asking.

Why is this a hard question?
(Via Hot Air Headlines) A very interesting discussion here and here about whether President Obama’s gift of an iPod with preloaded MP3s to the Queen of England is, in point of fact, legal under current copyright law. Short version: yes, but only because of diplomatic immunity on the one hand and sovereign immunity on the other. If we were talking about two private individuals… nobody apparently bloody knows, one way or the other.
On a personal note, I am forced to admit: I am waiting with some cruel joy to hearing an increasingly querulous tone come into the EFF‘s discussions of this particular administration. I shouldn’t: the EFF is one of the few critics of the last administration that I actually retain a basic respect for. But that’s going to be counterbalanced by the vicarious pleasure of watching them wake up from their unicorn dream.
