I enjoy listening to the Left assure itself that the Senate’s Iran Letter was a disaster…

…about as much as I enjoyed listening to it assure itself that the 2013 government shutdown was a disaster.  Which is to say: I quite enjoyed it.  But probably not as much as I’ll enjoy it next year.

Oh, I’m sorry. I’m supposed to be worried about this, right? I keep forgetting my lines in these little vignettes, I’m afraid.  My bad…

Bobby Jindal is not afraid of hurting Hillary Clinton’s feelings.

(H/T: Twitchy) This is entertaining:

…I always did like Bobby Jindal. He looks ready to get in the scrum, too. That’s going to be a selling point, this election cycle.

2012: Joe Biden slams Mitt Romney for… being right about Iraq, Syria, and Russia.

I honestly and truly do not like to tell people that the best thing that they can do for the Republic is not to vote.

But…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bw6I7MWYKV4

…if Joe Biden’s argument here swayed you – if the thought that Mitt Romney, if elected, would try to:

  • Reverse our withdrawal of troops from Iraq (there’s a heck of a lot of people in ISIS-held territory that wish we were still there);
  • Stop using a fixed timetable for our withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan (I believe that ISIS has shown us all why that’s a bad idea);
  • Engage in combat in Syria (note that Joe Biden assumed that we’d be fighting the fascists there, not giving them [and the theocrats in Iran] tacit assistance);
  • And confront Russia (who is merrily pushing everywhere they can, right now)

and you thought that this was all a bad thing; then I will submit to you that in voting for Obama-Biden you made the single most foolish, uninformed, and downright dangerous Presidential vote that you are likely to make in your life.  And while I absolutely respect the right of you to exercise your franchise – better men and women than either  you or I died to protect that right – it is my humble request that you refrain from damaging the country that we both love in the future.  I have kids, you see. I don’t want to see them worse off than I was, at their age.

US government decides not to sign off on Iranian insult to the USA.

I sincerely hope that this will be a teachable moment for the administration.

The United States has informed Iran that it will not issue a visa to Tehran’s controversial pick for envoy to the United Nations, the White House said Friday.

Denying visas to U.N. ambassadorial nominees or to foreign heads of state who want to attend United Nations events in the United States is rare, if not unprecedented.

The Obama administration had previously said only that the nomination of Hamid Aboutalebi, who was a member of the group responsible for the 1979 takeover of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, was “not viable.” U.S. officials had hoped the issue could be resolved by Tehran simply withdrawing the nomination.

Sen Jeff Merkley (D, Oregon): soft on Iran, for apparently most of my life.

I appreciate the Oregonian nervously reporting* about the Washington Free Beacons’s chronicling of Senator Jeff Merkley’s knee-jerk tendency to apologize for a regime that hangs homosexuals and adulterers: I might not have gotten to it for a while otherwise. Anyway, it’s depressing how unsurprising this report is:

The senator who fronted a campaign against new sanctions on Iran earlier this year has since 1979 been advocating that the United States take a soft line on Iran due to his belief that America’s global power and influence are waning, according to a copy of the lawmaker’s 235-page college thesis obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

Sen. Jeff Merkley (D., Ore.) emerged in January as one of the leading Senate Democrats who massaged the press on behalf of the Obama administration and pressured his colleagues to kill new Iran sanctions that were supported by a bipartisan majority of lawmakers.

Former Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D, MT) wants us to ‘cozy up’ to Iran.

…NO.

His words, not mine. That first link is to the video: text below.

“What’s interesting is not that we are going to have a treaty with Iran, it’s going to tip the balance away from the Saudis and the Egyptians to the Persians, the enemies for the last 3,000 years to the Arabs,” he said, pointing out that he had lived in the Middle East for seven years. “Big changes are happening in the Middle East. If we cozy up to Iran, we are not going to need Saudis anymore. We will be energy independent.”

The bolding is mine; and I am just going to note here that if Gov. Schweitzer thinks that he can run for President on a platform of ‘cozying up’ to a regime that thinks Death to America and Death to Israel are perfectly normal and unobjectionable policy statements, then Gov. Schweitzer is free to try. And I’ll add this: rhetoric like that might work in a Democratic primary. It won’t fly in the general. Continue reading Former Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D, MT) wants us to ‘cozy up’ to Iran.

Will Senator Charles Schumer (D, NY) stand with @BarackObama, or with our allies?

There is a saying: People are always most conservative about the things that they care about. Senator Charles Schumer apparently cares quite a good deal about our ally Israel not being consumed in a nuclear fire.  His remarks Sunday night about Iranian sanctions:

Via Hot Air, including a partial transcript.  Spoilers: Schumer’s for more sanctions, and is worried about what will happen to Israel if Iran gets a nuke.  Like most of the rest of the country, mind you. Head’s up: apparently, there’s an Iran deal going on.

Hard to say, really: the President was supposed to be on at 10:15 PM Eastern to announce it. He’s late. As usual.

UPDATE (10:28 PM, no Barack Obama):

Susan Rice’s Iranian oil connection? …And Canadian oil connection?

…And, well, there’s a lot, really.

Well, well, well. It turns out that UN Ambassador and prospective Secretary of State nominee Susan Rice (she’s a multimillionaire, by the way) has some rather interesting financial ties to numerous foreign energy companies that still do business with that oppressive, misogynistic, homophobic, and downright barking mad insane regime currently controlling Iran.  The most interesting one of those is Royal Dutch Shell, which has about a billion dollars’ worth of interest (literally) in getting Iran’s sanctions lifted; Rice has also invested in at least two other companies that are operating in Iran against the wishes of pretty much most of the West.

Hmm.  Let’s scroll through some of her other investments:

  • Transcanada ($300-600K).  Keystone Pipeline company.  Wonder whether the Greenies are comfortable about that? Spoiler warning: no.
  • Monsanto (10-50K). Agricultural conglomerate that works with genetically engineered food.  Wonder if the Greenies are comfortable about that?
  • Walmart ($50-100K). …If you haven’t figured out by now that Big Labor is gunning for Walmart, then… Big Labor is gunning for Walmart.
  • Ishares Silver Trust ($100-250K), Newmont Mining Corp ($100-250K).  Metal mining companies.  Hey, guess who has even more of a vested interest than usual in making sure that the government keeps the current capital gains and dividends tax rates?  Metal mining companies!

#rsrh I may be going ballistic in roughly 48 hours.

I am strongly tempted to go ballistic now, but I will give the cops a chance to examine the evidence here first.  One major argument against this being what it looks like is that assassinating dissidents on American soil is something that the KGB was hesitant to do during the height of the Cold War; if the Iranians think that they can get away with something similiar then they are going to get an unpleasant surprise.  Yes, even under Obama: it’s the weak ones that you have to worry about when it comes to this sort of thing.  They’re peculiarly vulnerable to disproportionate – or at least very explosive – responses.

But it may have just been a coincidence.
