Jeanne Shaheen caught lying about her opposition to nuclear power.

Rookie mistake.

Really and truly, she did claim that.

Because there’s this thing called YouTube now, you know:

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D, New Hampshire) is afraid that she’ll lose.

Ah, my droogies: let me show you the wickedness of the world.  Or at least the wickedness of Jeanne Shaheen’s reelection campaign.

  • It all started when this rather bizarre post went up on the Jeanne Shaheen website (don’t worry, safe link).  You look at that, and you think to yourself: That looks a lot like the framework of an ad – complete with stock photos! – that the Shaheen campaign would very much like a third-party group to grab and turn into an actual campaign commercial, only the campaign can’t actually say that.
  • And the reason why you would think that is because that’s what it is.  You see, candidates cannot coordinate with third party political Super-PACs, thanks to the amazingly bizarre and remarkably pointless regulatory regime that we like to call ‘campaign finance reform.’ But as that link shows, there’s nothing stopping campaigns from putting up public ‘Important Messages,’ and then looking surprised when a third-party group turns that message into a campaign ad. New Hampshire paper slams Jeanne Shaheen for Keystone cowardice.

The  Foster’s Daily Democrat minces no words:

Sen. Shaheen has been tagged by Republicans with the dubious honor of siding with the Obama Administration 98 percent of the time. Even if we grant this is an oversimplification of her voting record, Sen. Shaheen is unquestionably one of the president’s faithful. That being the case, she will have to answer for her de facto boss’ actions (or inactions) during this off-year election cycle.

Those actions include running away from Keystone for political gain.

Bolding mine. Despite the name, the paper is generally considered to be Republican-leaning, or possibly just Republican; it’s certainly not been shy about criticizing the current administration*.  So this is not DOOM by any means for Jeanne Shaheen. But what it is is an indication that the only reason why Barack Obama’s going to get away with a delaying action on Keystone at this point is because he’s not actually running for re-election.  Those members of his party who do have to run in November do not have that luxury.  They will get pressed on the subject. Excuse me, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D), but is that Barack Obama’s dagger in your back?

This was just mean:

Former Bay State U.S. Senator Scott Brown is reacting to President Obama’s comments about his potential Senate run in New Hampshire.

“I’d be happy to – you know, if Scott Brown wants to move down to Texas, you know, then we could always use some moderate Republicans in other parts of the country…”

Or possibly just stupidly incompetent of the President.  Either explanation will do. Continue reading Excuse me, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D), but is that Barack Obama’s dagger in your back?

I can’t see how Scott Brown stays out of the New Hampshire Senate race.

If he’s being told about polls like this

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) is tied with former Massachusetts Republican Sen. Scott Brown in a new survey of the New Hampshire Senate race — even though Brown hasn’t officially entered the race.

The survey, from bipartisan consulting firm Purple Strategies and first reported in The Boston Globe, gives both Shaheen and Brown 44 percent support among likely New Hampshire voters.

…the temptation must be strong.

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D, New Hampshire) trying to find a poll-tested excuse for #obamacare.

This… does not sound like Senator Jeanne Shaheen is unconcerned about her re-election prospects in New Hampshire.

Maureen Mooney told the Granite Status the Affordable Care Act was “by far the dominant issue” in what she said was a 19-minute the survey.

Mooney said she was asked to assess on a scale of zero to 100 not only Shaheen, but also Brown, Rubens, Sen. Kelly Ayotte and Gov. Maggie Hassan.

She said she was asked twice to assess Shaheen and Brown, and was asked to assess Shaheen after being told that the senator supported the Affordable Care Act “because of ‘X, Y and Z.’”

Jeanne Shaheen *not* at Grafton ‘town hall’ meeting, DNC claims to the contrary.

The Senator was never going to be there, in fact – as this post from August 3rd shows. It happens; after all, the Senate’s not out of session quite yet, so if you have to use staffers, you have to use staffers. Announce ahead of time, and the only people adversely affected would be abject idiots, or the people who trust the abject idiots to give them true information.

And, really, how many of them are out there?

Organizing for America distributed an e-mail around midnight on Wednesday urging Democratic activists to attend a town hall meeting in Grafton, NH with Sen. Jeanne Shaheen at 10:00 AM on Thursday.

[snip of explicit statement that Shaheen is going to be there, fearmongering, fearmongering, fearmongering, fearmongering, fearmongering, and then – just for a break in pace – more fearmongering]

There’s just one problem. NowHampshire.com contacted Shaheen’s office who confirms that the senator is in Washington and will not attend the town hall meeting. Staff will field questions in Grafton instead.

If you’re going to astroturf a town hall, Mr. President, complete with premade signs with which to have supporters wave around and everything; anyway, shouldn’t you check to see whether the person who you’re trying to cover for is actually going to be at the town hall meeting in the first place?

Ed notes that these are the people who want to run your health care. I note that there were a finite number of people in New Hampshire this morning who came away from this escapade with the reaction that Organizing for America either lied to them, or else doesn’t have a clue about what’s really going on.

Much obliged!

Moe Lane
