Boston Globe slams Joe Biden for gaffes, and liberals for hypocrisy. (That was not a typo.)

What is this newspaper, and what have they done with the Boston Globe?

Because I never thought that I would see a major Democratic newspaper lecture a Democratic Vice President like this – and lecture liberals for letting said Vice President get away with murdering his own rhetoric for so long:

Liberals routinely dismiss Biden’s gaffes as the rhetorical excesses of an overly exuberant speaker — it’s “Joe being Joe.” And there can be something appealing about a politician who throws caution and the script that goes with it to the winds. Yet when conservative speakers get overly exuberant and cross a rhetorical line, they are presumed racist or culturally insensitive, rather than refreshingly free-spirited. One standard should apply.

Former VA Governor Doug Wilder (D) smacks around Joe Biden over ‘Chains’ comment.

I assume that everyone is checked out on the basic story? Vice President Joe Biden Opened His Mouth at a majority-African American audience in Virginia and told that audience that if Romney got elected they were all going to end up in chains (he also told them that they were in North Carolina, but that kind of reality-based ambiguity is more or less baked into the cake that is Joe Biden).  The White House has decided to pretend that they didn’t hear about it right away… sure you didn’t, Mister President – and that the whole thing is a ‘distraction,’ which is Beltway-speak for ‘a solid sucker punch right to the solar plexus.’ I’d say that Obama has gotten surprisingly adroit at sounding like a typical Dizzy City political… ah, ‘operative’… except that this would be unfair to the Chicago political machine.  Mendacity and baldfaced lying are part of the Illinois Combine – and they’re good at it, thank you very much.

Well, former Governor Wilder isn’t too happy about the entire situation:

He’s for it.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Fine, so am I.  But you know what the difference between me and Joe Biden is?  My primary site (RedState) doesn’t go into full panic mode every time I happen to mention that; Biden’s (the White House) does. Continue reading #rsrh Joe Biden Opens His Mouth, Same-Sex Marriage Edition.

#rsrh You know who’s loving life today? Joe Freaking Biden, that’s who.

Normally the collective scorn of the blogosphere would be focused like a laser on his… Bidenesque… statement that Senator Stuart Smalley of Minnesota* was a “leading legal scholar.”  As it is, everybody’s all Oh, yeah, Joe Biden opened his mouth and stupidity came out.  Again.  Which is not great, but it’s not actually driving the news.  On the other hand, one presumes that Vice President talks because, somewhere in the recesses of his own private universe, he clutched to belief that doing so will still help his friends?  Somehow?

On the gripping hand, this is possibly the first time in months that Al Franken was actually in the news, even in passing…

*Also: Fox Nation using that picture for Al Franken was so subtly nasty that I completely missed it at first.

#rsrh So, did anybody ever tell Jay Carney…

…that there would be days when he’d have to defend things like Joe Biden’s assertion that the Osama bin Laden was the most audacious military action in half a millennium?  I personally hope not: being press secretary for this administration means being OK with being a swarmy little suckweasel (seriously, it’s listed as a job requirement), which makes my sympathies, ah, muted.

Video at the link: I’d say that it was funny the way that the press corps laughed at the whole thing, except that the below demonstrates the extent to which they covered it:

Not to be impolite or anything, but Sarah Palin got more grief over a comment that she didn’t even make.

#rsrh Joe Biden Opens His Mouth, Osama Raid edition… wait, still need to subcategorize that one.

We’ll take Crazy-Ass Exaggerations for $300, Alex:

You can go back 500 years. You cannot find a more audacious plan. Never knowing for certain. We never had more than a 48 percent probability that he was there.

As Ed Morrissey notes, when you can’t get the Huffington Post to sign off on a stupid thing that a Democratic official says, you have gotten far out in the weeds indeed. I’d also like to add that the Vice President’s words attempt to diminish and dishonor the memory of the men who fought at Inchon; and I note that battle in particular because my own father (who was a good Democrat and Obama supporter, by the way) was one of those men*.

Joe Biden wants the scary, scary Human Events reporter to go away.

First, let’s refresh people’s memory of what happened.

For those without video: basically, what happened was that after Joe Biden Opened His Mouth and announced that voting against the President’s job bill would result in more rapes in Flint, Michigan, Jason Mattera of Human Events confronted the Vice President on Biden’s statement.  If you watch the video, you’ll see that Mattera ‘ambushed’ VP Biden by cruelly saying the magic word ‘picture:’ this of course caused Biden to go into full Pavlovian politician mode… thus freezing him for just long enough for Mattera to ask Biden on the record whether that language was appropriate for a sitting Vice President.  Biden then attempted to push out a cloud of link by standing by his statement that rapes were up three times in Flint – which, by the way, Factcheck.org calls a ‘whopper;’ i.e., a lie – and then made a hasty retreat.

So.  Point to Human Events.  But now it gets better. Continue reading Joe Biden wants the scary, scary Human Events reporter to go away.

#rsrh Joe Biden Opens His Mouth, 2012 election edition.

Before you watch this clip (via Jim Geraghty), I want you to understand something: this is Joe Biden, Vice President of the United States of America. This is the guy hand-picked by then-Senator Barack Obama to be his wingman. This is the guy that was to have Obama’s back; the person that Obama would trust with the keys; the man who the President could rely on, no matter what. And not just from the point of view of the Presidency: with this pick Barack Obama made it clear that, in his judgment, Joe Biden was the best, most reliable choice out there for the Democratic party.

Got that?

Good. Now watch: Continue reading #rsrh Joe Biden Opens His Mouth, 2012 election edition.

#rsrh Joe Biden Opens His Mouth Watch: China’s One-Child Policy!

To mangle the Diane Duane quote… Joe Biden should always be taken everyplace twice: the second time, to apologize.  This particular – week’s? day’s? minute’s? nanosecond’s? – example shows our esteemed Vice President signing off on the PRC’s draconian population control techniques.  Bolding I presume Mark Hemingway’s:

But as I was talking to some of your leaders, you share a similar concern here in China.  You have no safety net.  Your policy has been one which I fully understand — I’m not second-guessing — of one child per family. The result being that you’re in a position where one wage earner will be taking care of four retired people.  Not sustainable.

I’m sure that Biden didn’t actually mean to endorse the People Republic of China’s policy of population control via forced abortions; but he certainly meant to avoid making a moral judgement on the practice.  Which is, by the way, vile, disgusting, and not compatible with the reasonable expectations of moral behavior from a truly civilized nation-state.  I’d just thought that I’d pass that bit of cultural elitism along, since my country’s current leadership team is a bit too scared to.

Geez.  Even the Russians are less backward about this sort of thing, these days.

QotD, Joe Biden Opens His Mouth edition.

Episode 34,872. Our illustrious Vice President, reminding the Teamsters that democracy must always give way to naked political partisanship:

“And don’t any of you, by the way, any of you guys vote Republican,” Biden said. “I’m not supposed to say, this isn’t political. …don’t come to me if you do! You’re on your own, Jack!”

Now, is that the official position of the United States government, Mr. Vice President? Or just your own?
