Another good campaign ad from Joel Demos (R CAND, MN-05).

I am remiss about not writing on it until now: it took The Other McCain to remind me.

Joel’s donations page is here; but I need to point out something that many of you may not want to hear. To wit: there are 430 House races where there is a GOP candidate (which was incredibly good work by the NRCC). Of them, over half are challengers. Of those, the vast majority are fighting uphill battles and are in desperate need of cash. If the “I only give directly to the candidates” strategy we hear so much of actually worked, Joel Demos would have all the money that he needed to give Keith Ellison (who gives away all his campaign money to other candidates) screaming fits. But Joel doesn’t, because it doesn’t work: the money clumps, because people are not equally aware of the merits of every good candidate out there, and there is currently no good mechanism to make people equally aware.

Let me put it another way: if you are counting on me (to personalize this) to tell you who deserves your campaign contributions, stop doing that. I’m a stay-at-home dad who is lucky if I can keep track of thirty House races. We already have organizations that think on a national scale. Join them, and take them over.

PS: By all means, give Joel some money. He’s doing his best for us in a tough district. But there are a lot of equally-worthy folks out there without Joel’s talent for good, low-cost campaign ads.

Meet Joel Demos (R CAND, MN-05).

Come, I will conceal nothing from you: Joel Demos has, by his own admission, a monster of a job ahead of him with regard to MN-05 (Keith Ellison’s district). We talked about his race today.

Joel’s site is here: and let me talk a bit tactically for a moment. The peculiarity of the MN-05 seat is that while Keith Ellison gets a lot of money for it, he also passes out that money to other Democrats as quickly as it comes in. There is nothing wrong with that, and I don’t want to even imply that there would be anything wrong with that; but Ellison had only 209K CoH at the end of the 2nd quarter of this year. He’s that low because he doesn’t expect to have to spend more than that; and Joel getting to even a significant portion of that kind of money will throw Ellison’s campaign off stride. That’s why I personally threw in twenty bucks from my own discretionary income, which is something that I never do idly. Sometimes you have to pony up, and this is I think one of those times.

So go for it.

Joel Demos (R CAND, MN-05).

This is one of those memorable campaign ads. To set up: Joel Demos is the only Republican candidate in the MN-05 primary next week, which means that he’s going to be the Republican nominee to face off against Keith Ellison. And, trust me: Joel is fully aware of what that means.

Actually, you don’t have to trust me. You just have to watch his own campaign video.

I was hoping for an interview today, but Joel works for a living. Check again next week.

PS: Yes, you may safely assume that Joel could use whatever you can spare.
