Stop trying to explain away incidents where your boss tells the world that the private sector is “doing fine” and start trying to KEEP YOUR BOSS FROM SAYING THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE.
Seriously. The days where President Obama could say whatever darn fool thing that pops into his head have PASSED. Vet his speeches. Make him learn how to answer a yes-or-no question in less than five minutes. Teach him message discipline.
