What is the sound of $2.5M flushing?

this.

South Carolina Democratic candidate Rob Miller has apparently adopted Republicans’ “Fire Pelosi” mantra.

According to a report by The Associated Press, Miller — who is hoping to oust Rep. Joe Wilson (R) in the South Carolina 2nd district race — said Wednesday that he would not vote to keep Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) as Speaker in the 112th Congress.

Via, of all things, @markos, who is upset that Democrats gave Miller 2.5 million dollars to retire his 2008 debt and lose again to Joe Wilson in 2010 (hint, Robbie: don’t go into the red this time); I would have posted this last night, except that it took me this long to stop laughing.

PS: Joe Wilson for SC-02Not voting for Pelosi for Speaker, either.

Left freaks out over Moe Tucker.

For those who don’t know – and come, I will conceal nothing from you; until five minutes ago, this included me* – Ms. Tucker was a drummer for the Velvet Underground, which for a certain segment of the population makes her instantly cooler than squeezable bacon. Well, in April of 2009 a ‘Maureen Tucker’ showed up at a Georgia Tea Party:

…and Instapundit, Reason, and I are all entertained to discover that this is freaking out people, now that that the story’s out (a year and a half later).  They are actually depressed and in denial at the thought that an older lady and mother who once played the drums for a band they liked might be upset that the economy’s in free fall; searching Google blogs for “moe tucker” should be good for at least a half hour of entertainment.   That is, if you’re the sort who would enjoy watching random people from the Other Side go through an episode of existential dread and mild terror at the thought that one of their icons is one of… one of… one of THEM.

No, it’s not exactly cognitive dissonance; this is more the activating event that causes cognitive dissonance.  I’m sure that the rationalizations will start pretty soon, though.

Jim Messina: heckuva job on Sherrod, guys. [Corrected.]

[UPDATE: The previous link was incorrect; now fixed. My apologies. – ML]

(Via AoSHQ) Every time I think that the Shirley Sherrod story cannot make the administration look more foolish, new details come out [link fixed – ML].

…three Democratic sources said deputy chief of staff Jim Messina singled out the White House’s initial response to the incident for praise in the regular 8:30 a.m. staff meeting Tuesday morning.

[snip]

One source, who is unhappy with the administration’s handling of the incident, paraphrased Messina’s remarks: “We could have waited all day — we could have had a media circus — but we took decisive action, and it’s a good example of how to respond in this atmosphere.”

No, in fact, it was not a good example*.  It’s hard to see how it could be a worse one.  The Right is hardly abashed that Ms. Sherrod ended up being maligned by the Obama administration and defended by Glenn Beck; the Left is infuriated** that their precious man-god stomped all over their favorite narrative before it could even get started; and the Middle is mostly going to take away from all of this the sight of the White House apologizing to a black woman for passing instant judgment on her based on the color of her skin, rather than the content of her character.

And, oh yes: there’s a media circus, too.

#rsrh That poor, persecuted Democratic majority.

God, but these people whine so.  Via Big Government ,via Instapundit:

In a 17,000-plus-word piece published in The Nation on Thursday, journalist Eric Alterman calls the Obama presidency “a big disappointment” for progressives and blames a broken system in Washington that he says allows the minority party to rule with impunity — and special interests and big money to dictate legislative policy.

They’ve got 255/177 in the House, 58/41 in the Senate, and one of their guys in the White House, you know.  That’s normally what one would think of as being a pretty substantial majority:  if the GOP had those kinds of numbers we’d do anything that we damned well pleased.  In fact, when we did have those kinds of numbers we largely did anything that we damned well pleased.  But then, when it comes to the comfortable exercise of power we don’t, well, suck*.

Annnnd that’s the fundamental problem for the Democratic party right there: their leadership is fundamentally incapable of running the country properly.  Probably because they take progressive tripe like the above seriously.

Ach, well, self-correcting problem.

Red to… well, Blue to Red, and maybe one of them will flip back.

Not a catchy title, I know.

There’s a good deal of laughing going around about the DCCC’s latest quote-unquote ‘Red to Blue’ announcement, mostly because it’s fairly clear that they’re kind of doing it wrong.  Generally speaking, it’s not really considered newsworthy that you’ve managed to find a candidate for a seat that you’re already holding, but the current officeholder is abandoning like a scared little puppy; and yet the DCCC has seven of their eleven new ‘challengers’ doing precisely that.  The list is below:

So much for a Yoo/Bybee show trial.

(Via Hot Air Headlines) Actually, there are two reasons why the Left is going to be upset:

For weeks, the right has heckled Attorney General Eric Holder Jr. for his plans to try the alleged 9/11 conspirators in New York City and his handling of the Christmas bombing plot suspect. Now the left is going to be upset: an upcoming Justice Department report from its ethics-watchdog unit, the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR), clears the Bush administration lawyers who authored the “torture” memos of professional-misconduct allegations.

The first reason is, indeed, that their fever dream of seeing Yoo and Bybee in the dock – or even subject to disbarment – will die, choking.

The second reason is that ‘heckled’ is a poor choice of verb for what we did to Holder. ‘Overruled’ works so much better.

Sen. Foghorn Leghorn (D): ‘Working for TX-45. Working for YOU.’

[UPDATE]: Welcome, Instapundit readers.

This has been circulating around the Hill today; some kind, cruel soul from there took the trouble to forward it to me.  Twenty-four hours and they still haven’t fixed recovery.gov: remember how we got told that the new administration was going to bring us into this new, wonderful Web 2.0 reality? These guys can’t even get a database up and running properly. Heck, they can’t even be bothered to check typical search results for garbage before they take said database live.

Hey, turns out that the wiretapping thing’s constitutional after all!

(Via Hot Air) You know, I was going to come up with all sorts of snark directed towards the people who are swearing at this NYT headline (“Intelligence Court Rules Wiretapping Power Legal“) – but then I remembered that, really, there’s no sport to it when it comes to this bunch.

So let me just present them with their new theme song, via Beck.. Enjoy!
