Video of the Day, The Lord Of The Rings Recap Rap, Bros edition.

:snicker: Spoilers*:

That’s a generic ‘bros,’ by the way.  As the video notes, we are all bros.

*I mean, I dunno how you’ve managed to get this far without knowing the plot while at the same time wanting to eventually watch the trilogy, but in case you have: spoilers.

Late Halloween watch: A Lord of the Rings TV series?

I am not quite yet at DO NOT WANT. My wife is. I think that it would work, if you did it up as the Second Age with the forging of the Rings of Power. But that’s probably not what we’d be getting.

Warner Bros. Television and the estate of J.R.R. Tolkien are in talks with Amazon Studios to develop a series based on the late author’s “The Lord of the Rings” novels. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is said by sources with knowledge of the situation to be personally involved in the negotiations, which are still in very early stages. No deal has been set.

Official LotR D&D 5E coming out!

A new LotR 5E RPG by Cubicle 7 is a done deal, thanks to WotC’s D&D OGL.

…Sorry, let me translate that into English.  There’s a British roleplaying game (RPG) company called Cubicle 7.* It has the existing right to adapt JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings (LotR) as an RPG: and since Wizards of the Coast (WotC), who owns Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) has already issued an Open Gaming License (OGL) for its Fifth Edition ruleset (5E), Cubicle 7 is going to do a 5E version of LotR.  Which is frankly the snake eating its own tail, here, given how much D&D depends on LotR for its very existence, really.

Nonetheless, cool news. Although the Iron Crown Enterprises (ICE) Middle Earth Roleplaying (MERP)/Rolemaster LotR will always be the true LotR series for me. I still have all of my old supplements…

*They also do a RPG based on Charlie Stross’s Cthulhu meets spy novels series The Laundry.

Tolkien dissed by Nobel Committee?

@Slublog is just a bit offended that the Nobel prize committee back in the Sixties apparently did not particularly enjoy JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of The Rings, and definitely rejected it for a prize.  In particular:

The reporter discovered that jury member Anders Österling wrote that the novel ‘has not in any way measured up to storytelling of the highest quality’.

…I’m sorry: Anders who?

@allahpundit is not actually dead to me.

But I’ll be damned if I can think of many leisure activities off of the top of my head that’s preferable to sitting down and watching the The Lord of the Rings trilogy for the first time*.  Oh, there are a couple – but less than you’d think.

Anyway, here.  Have ten and a half minutes of footage designed to make you drool over the upcoming Hobbit movie.

Oh baby, yeah.  I’m in the wrong business.

*If you’ve never seen this in theaters… well.  I’m sorry for you.
