Snippet #2 from ‘Project SHIVA.’

I put up a different snippet on my Patreon as part of my ‘sorry for missing yesterday’s deadline;’ but it occurred to me that people here might want a look, too.  So here’s another one of the interludes (which means that it’s different than the one on the Patreon). Note: rough first draft. Not apologizing, just noting.

NaNoWriMo, Day 18: 1767/25458.

This report is a little late, but have you ever had a newspaper story come in that was perfect for something you were doing?  I did.  This was absolutely something that I needed to include in the book.  So… some quick research, and some more research because I didn’t believe the original research, and here we are.

25.4K words. Finally past the halfway point.

NaNoWriMo, Day 17: Taking a Vacation Day.

More accurately, taking a I guess I needed an outline after all day.  I’ve been working on one, and I probably should have done it a few weeks ago. Turns out there’s a difference between a plot and a synopsis: go figure, huh?

Also: I needed to recharge batteries; heck, I should just load up the dishwasher and go get some sleep.

NaNoWriMo, Day 16: 1667/23691.

Finally got past a place with no narrative flow. I think.  God knows that the second draft to this thing is going to have to have a ton of dialog replaced with action. But that’s a worry for later.

Getting up there, getting up there.

NaNoWriMo, Day 15: 1717/22024.

Well, if this keeps up then soon I’m going to be past the halfway point. Fortunately, this is not a competition. Really fortunately.

NaNoWriMo, Day 14: 1677/20307.

My wife had her medieval crafts friends over for dinner (salted pork roast and other delicious things), I helped entertain guests for a change, and it was difficult to figure out what to write tonight again. So, nose to the grindstone, because excuses don’t increase wordcount.

Hey, 20K.

NaNoWriMo, Day 13: 1737/18630.

Not a typo; yesterday’s total was a typo (I looked at the wrong number). Still, I’m only down 3000 words at this point.  I guess I’ll come up with something that bridges the gap in the narrative between what I wrote yesterday and what I wrote today.  I wasn’t sure how to get from where I was to where I wanted to go, so I wrote out where I wanted to go in the hopes that it would give an idea on how to get there.  I think that it may have worked, too. We’ll see.

NaNoWriMo, Day 11: 1667/18337.

We’re all spreadsheeted up in this stuff now, mind you.  Got a scene out of my head and onto the words that came out fairly well, I think.  Also, had to look stuff up.  I’m trying my best not to research anything on general principles, but sometimes I have to.

Eighteen thousand words. Lord have mercy. No, really, that would be great, Lord.

NaNoWriMo, Day 11: 1737/15226.

I thought, actually, that I would just write out a few hundred words and claim (my thankfully clearing up) sickness to excuse the rest.  But I got back into the groove.  I’m still a couple of thousand words behind, but we’ve stopped the falling.

NaNoWriMo, Day 9: 535/1044/13489.

I am, alas, sick. I caught whatever kept my youngest kid out for two days earlier this week, and I am shamelessly combining the prologue that I should have been counting all along with my actual wordcount to come up with today’s number. And now I will probably put up a music video and go to bed.

But I wrote something!  I didn’t just use being sick as an excuse not to. Gotta keep plugging away at this.

NaNoWriMo, Day 8: 629/12445.

As I noted earlier and yesterday: I took my wife out for our anniversary this evening.  I am pleased that I got this many words out, particularly since there was wine with both dinner and desert. The important thing was to sit down for at least an hour and work. Which I have done, so I suspect that I will be sleeping soon.

NaNoWriMo, Day 7: 1909/11811.

A good day, although one that started slowly.  The great test shall be tomorrow.  Tomorrow is an anniversary dinner with my wife.  We shall probably be home late, and I will certainly will have had a beer, at bare minimum.

Still.  almost 12K words.  If I’m not careful, this could turn into a book.
