‘Patton: Main Title.’

There was a bit of a discussion on Twitter yesterday on whether Jerry Goldsmith was a better movie soundtrack composer than John Williams. I am, of course, on Team Williams. But, as I put it: if it had come down to a fight, Goldsmith and Williams would have tossed a couple of pro-forma punches at each other and then teamed up to beat up the rest of the bar. And we should probably leave it at that.

Main Title, Patton, Jerry Goldsmith

This may not be the *absolute* best movie intro ever made…

…(as per a private email thread) but it certainly raises the bar:

It took George C Scott only six and a half minutes to ensure that you will never, ever be able to remember what George Patton really looked like.

Movie of the Week: Up.

I will freely admit it: I didn’t get a chance to see Up in theaters. Yes, I hang my head in shame. Anyway, it’s coming out in three weeks, and I’m reliably informed that it was merely yet another goram spectacular Pixar film, so: Movie of the week, to replace Patton.

Movie of the Week: Patton.

Because, honestly, if somebody showed you an actual picture of Patton you’d scratch your head at the way that he doesn’t look all that much like George C. Scott.  It’s that good a movie.

And so we replace Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride with Patton.  Because we can, and so we shall.

Your lazy Sunday afternoon soundtrack.

What? You don’t have an internal soundtrack? Weird.

From Patton, of course.  Which still has to be George C. Scott’s greatest role ever.

While we’re waiting to see which Blue Dogs commit electoral suicide…

…by supporting this unholy cap-and-trade mess: here’s the intro to Patton.

Little-known fact: they toned it down for the movie.
