Nancy Pelosi is entirely correct: the GOP IS out to ‘get’ Planned Parenthood.

Now there’s something you don’t see every day: me agreeing with the former Speaker of the House. Alas, while the article starts off great with the headline (“Pelosi: GOP ‘out to get’ Planned Parenthood“) it quickly devolves into a desperate attempt by Nancy Pelosi to ignore the fact that she’s an unrepentant, knowing heretic* when it comes to abortion. Such is the life of a Catholic Democrat, these days; their own party won’t let them follow the dictates of their religion and they can’t even visibly show their discomfort with that.

But I know what you’re thinking: you’re thinking, But the GOP isn’t out to get Planned Parenthood! Wrong. What we have here is a disconnect between some – not all; some – of our politicians, and us. As a good, general rule of thumb it is safe to assume that the average Republican is sound on the subject of ending the practice of baby-harvesting for commercial purposes (or, indeed, any purpose at all).  That certain of our legislators have not yet internalized that realization is, indeed, a problem; but thankfully it is one that can be resolved via the mechanism of going up to said legislators and screaming in their faces until they get the message. Hillary Clinton’s pro-abortion comments shows she’s worried she’s losing.

It’s really as simple as that:

“Extreme views about women, we expect them from some of the terrorist groups, we expect that from people who don’t want to live in the modern world,”[pro-abortion advocate and Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton] said.

“It’s a little hard to take coming from Republicans who want to be the president of the United States, but they espouse out-of-date and out-of-touch policies.”

Tweet of the Day, …Who’s next to stand up for @PPAct? NAMBLA? edition.

As I noted on Twitter yesterday, we can more or less call this a public relations FAIL.

Rep. Elijah Cummings issues an impotent threat letter to the Center for Medical Progress.

(H/T: @FrontLineMD) Let me give you yet another example of Why Elections Matter. Let us imagine, for a moment, that we lived in an alternate universe where the Democrats still retained control of the House of Representatives. Let us also imagine that, in this world, that the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) had still conducted a sting operation that had caught Planned Parenthood and associated corporate customers engaged in ghoulish baby-harvesting. If those two things were the case, then this would be a chilling excerpt:

A leading Democrat wants to know if anti-abortion activists broke any federal or state laws when filming a series of undercover videos of Planned Parenthood.

Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, D-Md., asked the anti-abortion group Center for Medical Progress in a letter Thursday whether it used donations in its undercover investigation of Planned Parenthood. Cummings also wants to know if lawmakers were aware of any potential illegal activities surrounding the years-long investigation into Planned Parenthood.

Fortunately, Elijah Cummings is merely the Ranking Member of the Oversight Committee, not Chairman of it. That means more or less that he has precisely as much power to go after whistleblowers and muckrakers as the actual Chairman Jason Chaffetz will permit him. And seeing as Rep. Chaffetz has instead decided to start a probe on just how much federal money is propping up the baby-harvesting business, I suspect that Rep. Cummings will not find CMP’s response satisfactory. How nice: @PPAct to helpfully attack four GOP Senators.

I’d suggest that the Senators send Planned Parenthood a fruit basket in response, but… I will not finish that sentence.

Planned Parenthood announced Tuesday that it is launching ads targeting vulnerable Republican senators over talk of defunding the organization.

The ads will run in the home states of Sens. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), Rob Portman (R-Ohio), Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.), all of whom face tough reelection races next year.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R, AR) terminating contracts with Arkansas Planned Parenthood.

Elections matter.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson has directed the Department of Human Services to terminate Medicaid contracts with Planned Parenthood. “Termination will be effective thirty days from the date of the letter attached,” Hutchinson said in statement. The feds have recently told two other states that this maneuver violates federal law [Actually, they said ‘may.’ See below – ML].

You think that a Democratic governor Mike Ross (the guy Asa Hutchinson beat last year) would have done this, if the vote had gone the other way last year? – No, me neither. Ross certainly wouldn’t have provoked a possible showdown with the feds. And note that the correct term is ‘possible:’ contra that link above, the reality of the situation is that the federal government is carefully saying that the states may be violating federal law.

“CMS has notified states who have taken action to terminate their Medicaid provider agreements with Planned Parenthood that they may be in conflict with federal law,” Department of Health and Human Services spokesman Ben Wakana said in a statement.

Scenes from #rsg15: Ed Morrissey and Katie Pavlich on Planned Parenthood.

It’s going well, especially by Ed. He’s just a genial guy generally that it’s especially notable when he gets angry. Which is certainly a proper reaction to what Planned Parenthood has done.

Oh, shucks: AHCA finds that Planned Parenthood in Florida isn’t following all the rules.

Live by the regulatory State, get royally screwed by it:

Three of the 16 Planned Parenthood facilities inspected in Florida last week were performing procedures beyond their licensing authority, and one facility was not keeping proper logs relating to fetal remains, officials announced Wednesday.

The Agency for Health Care Administration released a report saying clinics in St. Petersburg, Fort Myers and Naples were performing second-trimester abortions when they were only licensed to perform first-trimester abortions. The report also found that a Pembroke Pines clinic was not following its own procedures for the labeling and dating of the disposal of fetal remains.

Quote of the Day, This Is What Why You Must Not Look Away From @PPAct edition.

Full confession: I haven’t seen the latest baby-harvesting video yet, and I’m not looking forward to watching it, either. The video playback on this thing isn’t too good. But I’m going to have to, because what John Kass is saying here is a true thingContinue reading Quote of the Day, This Is What Why You Must Not Look Away From @PPAct edition.

Ohio Democrat Bill Patmon: Get those #blacklivesmatter protesters in front of @PPAct offices!

Come, I will conceal nothing from you: when I saw this tweet I said Gotta be an African American. No white Democrat would ever dare say this*. Ever.  And then I clicked through, and lo! He was.

During a rally outside the Ohio statehouse on Tuesday, Ohio State Rep. Bill Patmon, a Democrat, said the demonstrators from the Black Lives Matter movement, which targets the police, should include Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider.

“You hear a lot of demonstrations across the country now about ‘black lives matter.’ Well they skipped one place. They should be in front of Planned Parenthood,” said Patmon, who is African-American.
