So, the Mike Tyson rape apology got Donald Trump’s own MOM mad at him.

Guess we’ll find out on Tuesday, but: typically you don’t want to brag about getting the endorsement of a convicted rapist whose conviction was in the state that you’re campaigning in. Particularly if you thought that the sentence for the rape was too severe in the first place:

Look, if your comments go and piss off your own mother, at least think about your stance, OK? It’s your mom. She gets that much consideration, at least.

NYT: Sen. Daniel Inouye (D, Hawaii) reportedly the Gillibrand Groper; and, oh, yeah, he might have raped a hairdresser once.

Wait, what?

With his deep baritone and courtly manner, Mr. [Daniel] Inouye was revered by his colleagues and was a powerhouse in both Hawaii and the Senate, where he was a reliable supporter of women’s rights.

But in an all but forgotten chapter of his career, the senator had been accused of sexual misconduct: In 1992, his hairdresser said that Mr. Inouye had forced her to have sex with him.

Her accusations exploded into a campaign issue that year, and one Hawaii state senator announced that she had heard from nine other women who said they had been sexually harassed by Mr. Inouye. But the women did not want to go forward with their claims.

This is, I swear to God, the first that I have ever heard of this.  Apparently it was a 1975 (and afterwards) alleged incident that came up in the 1992 election, and it got buried.  Thoroughly. Way down deep, and the ground tamped down with a shovel. Why?  …Well, the NYT of 1992 was unusually blunt: Continue reading NYT: Sen. The Daily Beast interviews rape victim from 1975 court case involving Hillary Clinton as defense attorney.

I know that the title is clunky.  The problem is that every alternate headline that I came up with made it sound like Hillary Clinton raped a twelve year old girl.  Which is not true.

Well, possibly for a given value of ‘not true.’

Hillary Clinton is known as a champion of women and girls, but one woman who says she was raped as a 12-year-old in Arkansas doesn’t think Hillary deserves that honor. This woman says Hillary smeared her and used dishonest tactics to successfully get her attacker off with a light sentence — even though, she claims, Clinton knew he was guilty.

The victim in the 1975 sexual abuse case that became Clinton’s first criminal defense case as a 27-year-old lawyer has only spoken to the media once since her attack, a contested, short interaction with a reporter in 2008, during Clinton’s last presidential campaign run. Now 52, she wants to speak out after hearing Clinton talk about her case on newly discovered audio recordings from the 1980s, unearthed by the Washington Free Beacon[*] and made public this week.

Quick background, for people who don’t know: twelve year old was raped in Arkansas. At the 1975 trial, Hillary Clinton (defense attorney) made various claims about the victim, played a bunch of procedural games with the physical evidence, and managed to get her client a plea on a lesser charge that ended up with him in jail for a year, with two months time served.  The victim? …Had and has a hard life. Joe Biden wants the scary, scary Human Events reporter to go away.

First, let’s refresh people’s memory of what happened.

For those without video: basically, what happened was that after Joe Biden Opened His Mouth and announced that voting against the President’s job bill would result in more rapes in Flint, Michigan, Jason Mattera of Human Events confronted the Vice President on Biden’s statement.  If you watch the video, you’ll see that Mattera ‘ambushed’ VP Biden by cruelly saying the magic word ‘picture:’ this of course caused Biden to go into full Pavlovian politician mode… thus freezing him for just long enough for Mattera to ask Biden on the record whether that language was appropriate for a sitting Vice President.  Biden then attempted to push out a cloud of link by standing by his statement that rapes were up three times in Flint – which, by the way, Factcheck.org calls a ‘whopper;’ i.e., a lie – and then made a hasty retreat.

So.  Point to Human Events.  But now it gets better. Continue reading Joe Biden wants the scary, scary Human Events reporter to go away.

#rsrh Multiple sexual assault allegations at #OWS.

By my count, there’s credible evidence from this Verum Serum [link fixed] post alone that it’s happened at five Occupy Whatever locations*: a rape accusation in Cleveland, an assault arrest in NYC, sexual harassment allegations in Oakland, a sexual assault allegation in Portland, and a suggestion that Occupy Baltimore is actively attempting to preemptively discourage the reporting any future attacks or assaults: Continue reading #rsrh Multiple sexual assault allegations at #OWS.

#rsrh So. Dominique Strauss-Kahn’s bail restrictions eased…

with the only thing left keeping him in-country is that they’re keeping his passport*.

If I had a nasty, suspicious mind I’d be publicly wondering what the over/under is on him taking advantage of the Fourth of July weekend travel madness to get out of the country and back to France.  Good thing that I don’t have a nasty, suspicious mind, huh?

*Short version of why: the accuser’s credibility has been called into question, based on her associates, a call made after the alleged attack, and her apparent misrepresentation of her past history to law enforcement officials.  Note that there’s still physical evidence that nobody’s attempting to deny, and the fact that DSK ran for it.  IOW, not conclusive proof, but the courts more or less had to take this all into account when assessing DSK’s flight risk.

#rsrh So… it was like she was watching herself…

do these things, right?

Antonio Cosme Velasco Soriano, 69, had been sent to jail for nine years in 1998, but was let out on a three-day pass and returned to his home town of Benejúzar, 30 miles south of Alicante, on the Costa Blanca.

While there, he passed his victim’s mother in the street and allegedly taunted her about the attack. He is said to have called out “How’s your daughter?”, before heading into a crowded bar.

Shortly after, the woman walked into the bar, poured a bottle of petrol over Soriano and lit a match. She watched as the flames engulfed him, before walking out.

She was there, sure, but it was as if she was in some sort of dream after she saw the guy who raped her then-thirteen year old daughter, right?  And she couldn’t wake up, right?  It was all very disconnected and confused and she doesn’t really know what happened next, right?

RIGHT?

PS: For the record… when you find your daughter’s rapist who should still be in jail instead out on furlough and about to have a beer, and said rapist taunts you; you should not GO TEMPORARILY INSANE, find a bottle of gasoline, douse the rapist with it, and then set him on fire.

That’s not nice.

Roman Polanski should have moved to Omelas.

Looking over Salon’s Kate Harding’s possibly too-surprised realization that too many people that she’s presumably normally OK with seem willing to forgive a child-rapist who makes good movies (via Little Miss Attila); The Guardian’s account of the way that Hollywood is forming up to defend said child-rapist (who, by the way, confessed to the crime) (via Big Hollywood); and Patterico’s observation that Anne Applebaum didn’t even read the stories that she linked to while defending the child-rapist (that would be the one who used drugs to rape a 13 year old girl) (via Instapundit)… yeah.  Roman Polanski would have been a perfect fit for Omelas.

And they would have loved to have him, too.

Mass rape, murder in Georgi… no, wait, one of the ‘victims’ had a gun.

So that becomes One dead, one injured in foiled robbery/rape/murder attempt in Georgia. Via Fausta:

College Student Shoots, Kills Home Invader

…Bailey said he thought it was the end of his life and the lives of the 10 people inside his apartment for a birthday party after two masked men with guns burst in through a patio door.

“They just came in and separated the men from the women and said, ‘Give me your wallets and cell phones,’” said George Williams of the College Park Police Department.

Bailey said the gunmen started counting bullets. “The other guy asked how many (bullets) he had. He said he had enough,” said Bailey.

That’s when one student grabbed a gun out of a backpack and shot at the invader who was watching the men. The gunman ran out of the apartment.
