Back from the movies.

My wife hadn’t seen The Last Jedi yet, so we went to go see.  She had quite a bit to say about space tactics on the trip back, although she liked the movie overall (as much as she likes movies, which is kind of hit or miss usually). Honestly, the most interesting thing about her reaction?  …The Porgs, man.  She thought that the Porgs were hysterical.  I may have to go to the mall tomorrow. Or maybe the Target will have them. Yeah, I should check the Target first.

PS: I personally found that the movie rewarded a second viewing, although I understand that half of my readership were not entirely impressed by a first viewing.  I readily concede that I am easygoing when it comes to movie reviews.

I am suspicious of the Last Jedi trailer going around.

I suspect it to be leaked footage; the clip here doesn’t feel like an official release.

I’m of several minds on this sort of thing, honestly.  On the one hand, putting out leaked footage like this is stealing stuff that doesn’t belong to you.  On the other hand, Disney fully expects to make banks* on The Last Jedi when it comes out and trailers like this aren’t going to hurt that bottom line one bit.  And on the gripping hand: if you’re going to take stuff that doesn’t belong to you and put it up on the Internet, try to match the technical skill of the people that you’re stealing from. The various audio bits are muddled and getting in the way of each other.

*It’s already a given that they’re going to make bank, singular.  Their expectations are bank, plural.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Supposedly, that’s the name: “STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is scheduled for release December 15, 2017.” Which definitely suggests that we’re going to see at least the Jedi training stuff from Empire Strikes Back being evoked in this film. Although… not to be unkind about this, but: the Jedi do not exactly have the best historical track record when it comes to either the Force, or the proper care and feeding of the galaxy.  For that matter, neither do the Sith. In fact, they’re both pretty much filled with habitual screw-ups, aren’t they?  Possibly they should just junk the whole thing and start over.

“But… but… but… lightsabers!”  Yes, yes, lightsabers are cool.  But old dudes on remote planets distributing laser swords is no basis for a system of government.
