The first “Dark Dungeons: The Movie” trailer.

Yes, they really are going to show a movie adaptation of Jack Chick’s famous comic tract attacking Dungeons & Dragons.

The movie site is here. Crowd-funded, and I was part of the crowd. So you can probably blame me for this, at least in part. And before you ask: everybody involved agreed that the best, most honest, and frankly ethical way to do this movie was to just take what was in the comic and put it up on the screen. That’s what producer JR Ralls promised Jack Chick, and I backed that project because of that promise. It would be far too easy to turn this project into a Flying Spaghetti Monster self-indulgence or some other silliness, and I remain confident that Ralls will be able to give us something that was reproduced as faithfully as possible, in both word and tone.  I will actually be disappointed if he does not.

The Men Who Stare At Goats Trailer.

My only real worry about this movie:

…(based on the non-fiction book of the same name) is that it may end up being another Burn After Reading: a movie whose trailer promises something that’s a good deal funnier than the actual movie delivers.  I’m hopeful – the title is inspired, and should have hopefully forced the script writer, director, and actors to live up to its promise – but you never know.

As to the merits of the programs described in either movie or book: I figure that if we had troops who could kill goats with their minds we’d have heard about it by now.  Forget keeping it quiet: the US military would mass-deploy that on a black-box basis just as soon as the results were replicable.

…the question is, is this going to be close enough? It looks promising, but that’s no guarantee. There’s also the problem that, between Iron Man, The Dark Knight, and Kung Fu Panda I’m kind of overdrawn at the movie karma bank right now.  So do I really have the right to fanboy, here?
