Obama to skip the Gridiron Club Dinner. Unsurprisingly.

A Gridiron Club member tells FBDC first that President Obama will not attend this year’s dinner next Saturday, March 21st. He will be the first president since Grover Cleveland not to attend the first Gridiron Club Dinner of his presidency.

This year’s date coincides with the spring break of President Obama’s daughters’ school and club members have been informed the Obama family will be out of town, likely in Chicago.

…and in case you were thinking that “kids’ spring break” is rather weak beer for sloughing off a century-old tradition, well, good call. The real reason is that Obama would be expected to do something like this:

…and as you can see from the headers, it absolutely infuriated all the right people, including that guy from the cow college. But I digress: you look at that, and you realize that thing like this are just not going to happen in an Obama administration, is it? It’s impossible to imagine the current President doing anything like that, in fact: for whatever reason, Obama’s just too tightly attached to his dignity to succumb to such a human activity as self-mockery. Or perhaps he’s just too… brittle.

No, I’m not actually happy about that. I live here, remember?

  1. Although, having Biden as a replacement could make them wish Obama had gone.

    Any guesses as to what the excuse will be next year?
