The leaders of D.C.’s school choice movement, Kevin P. Chavous (former D.C. Councilman) and Virginia Walden Ford (executive director of D.C. Parents for School Choice), today issued the following statement:
“House and Senate Appropriators this week ignored the wishes of D.C.’s mayor, D.C.’s public schools chancellor, a majority of D.C.’s city council, and more than 70 percent of D.C. residents and have mandated the slow death of the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program. This successful school voucher program—for D.C.’s poorest families—has allowed more than 3,300 children to attend the best schools they have ever known.
Via Big Government. You know, there’s a part of me that would almost prefer that this was evidence of some sort of long term payback – one that would have been in the works for about 150 years at this point – against African-Americans by the Democratic party. At least that would be a reason to wreck school choice. It would be a conscious decision. Instead, though, I’m faced with the tawdry reality that the Democratic Party simply just doesn’t care.

Your first assumption is that Democrats want black children educated. You would be wrong. The Democrats want moron indoctrinated black voters and as long as blacks are dumb enough to continue voting for them, they will abuse them all they can.

This is what happens when you give yourself to the whims of government – you will be disappointed.
Vouchers are a great idea, not the least from a government perspective. But from a parent perspective, they suck. At any time they can be taken away, as we see here. Now that parent is a pawn in a political war between who can appeal to them best for the education of their children.
I think you are mistaken. The Democrats care. The Democrats care very deeply. But not about the kids. They care about the teachers’ unions.
Democrats are evil. And blacks continue to vote for them?
Note that DC is a unique case; Congress has
_direct_ constitutional control over the
local government, and will not use it.
Don’t forget, those parents voted for the masters.
Can’t have a plantation without an uneducated underclass beholden to the Master….
Obama had to kill the program. Without the indoctrination they recieve in public schools, these Black students might think they could succeed in America by studying and working hard instead of voting Democrat and waiting for a handout. God forbid we give them HOPE to escape the chains the Democrat party binds them in. All Democrats should hang their heads in shame.
Let us not forget that slavery isn’t slavery if its done for the slave’s best interests. And of course–who is in a better position to determine their best interests other than their masters?

No, I’m not, but pleasantly surprised that democrats were willing to unmask themselves to DEMOCRAT VOTERS in the district. You see, the DC voters have no real voice and so and so, but they are Dem voters none-the-less and now the mask is off and they SEE what frauds Democrats are when it comes to education. Democrats are whores to the Education union NOT champions of children and their education and all those parents get to see that now.
Gotta keep darkie out of the good schools.

Democrats have two priorities:
1. Doing what unions want.
2. Educating black children.
Item one is a higher priority for Democrats than item two.

I think I see a deeper motive than some of you other posters. Those who care about their children will seek out other programs which will relocate them to states that offer school choice programs. There is a negative cost that will be associated with this kind of social engineering. I see a national divide happening to the USA in about another 100 years.
So, where is Safe Schools Czar Ken Jennings in all this? Decrying the future deaths of black children as they are gunned down in the DC public schools? You know, the mild, intelligent ones whose parents fought so their precious little ones could have a future?
He’s giving a class in fisting to kindergardners and counting the election year payola that the unions will throw in for betraying the people!
