  1. Live action Star Blazers could be very very cool. But while Americans can accept dubbed anime, there isnt much crossover for live action Japanese movies. Will be interesting to see if the cult status of the show will help it break that barrier. And if it doesnt work, Hollywood can always remake it. They were asleep at the switch not to have thought of it first given the huge cult popularity of anything 80’s and geeky. Star Blazers was way cooler than Transformers for crying out loud.

  2. Everyone sing along:

    We’re off to outer space!
    We’re leaving Mother Earth!
    To save the human race!
    Our Star Blazers!

Thanks Moe, I’m going to have the theme music running through my head all day…

As for the DVDs I’m still holding out hope that one day they’ll release the non-Americanized version.

  3. Cue the whining of the fanboy purists in 4…3…2..

However, this looks like it could be fun.

  4. Obviously, I’m a fan 🙂 Trailer looked cool…we shall see how the real thing goes.

I think Hollywood did consider this once or twice. I’ve heard rumors of a Starblazers movie for years. Not sure why it never took off though.

Oh, and thanks Skip, I’ve now got the theme in my head too…

  5. I’ve heard that Disney has the live action film rights to Starblazers. I wonder if it will make it difficult to get this show in the US.

  6. 🙂 I’ve used this or a version of it as a username for more years than I care to mention (let’s just say since AOL was a big deal…). Most people don’t get it, or don’t mention it if they do.

Hm…a Pixar StarBlazers (Yamato) would be COOL…

  7. Holy Crap! What’s it been for me, 26-29 years since I made my way to the TV everyday at 2:30 PM to watch it on Channel 29 in Philadelphia. I wonder whose going to play Captain Gideon?
