QotD, Hobgoblin of Little Minds edition.

It comes from Ace of Spades:

They say the Constitution is not a suicide pact. Neither is consistency a suicide pact. If Bush and Obama were competing in the Olympics in the high jump, and the liberals set the bar at 9 feet for Bush, we cannot permit them to set the bar at three feet for Obama.

Nine feet is the mark. I didn’t argue for that high bar for success under Bush, but, the mark having been established, I’ll be damned if I’m going to let it be lowered for King Obama.

And before you start pounding the table and shouting about how we need to be morally superior to a bunch of people who want us all to die in a fire, do the following things:

  1. Actually read the rest of Ace’s post;
  2. Remember that the netroots only care about holding us to standards, not themselves.  I see no reason why I should indulge them in exempting them from their own (loudly-screeched) moral code;
  3. Look up the quote.  Particularly the second half, which is usually hacked off.

I’m with Ace on this:  Karma.  It’s what’s for dinner. And it’s not my fault if a bunch of Lefties never contemplated a future past January 20, 2009.

  1. So long as they insist on writing new rules, we should hold them to those rules. The moment they begin treating us with respect, we return the respect. It’s simple game theory.

    The danger, though, is that the left seems perfectly willing to create a world that’s a combination of “Harrison Bergeron”, “Brazil”, and Third World dictatorship.
