Patrick Gaspard’s $37K disclosure form lie.

It’s not the lying, really:

President Barack Obama’s political director failed to disclose that he was slated to receive a nearly $40,000 payout from a large labor union while he was working in the White House.

Patrick Gaspard, who served as the political director for the Service Employees International Union local 1199, received $37,071.46 in “carried over leave and vacation” from the union in 2009, but he did not disclose the agreement to receive the payment on his financial disclosure forms filed with the White House.

It’s the stupid lying. We are expected to believe that Patrick Gaspard did not remember to disclose that he was scheduled to receive almost forty grand in severance pay from the SEIU; an amount, by the way, that represents a significant portion of his existing debt. We are further expected to believe that this represents an administrative failure – rather than, say, an attempt to obscure the White House’s political director’s deep and long-standing connections with a group involved in intimidation against administration scapegoats, violent attacks against administration critics last year, and less ostensibly partisan violence for years.  And, of course, we are expected to believe that this is not really a big deal.

Well, it is kind of a big deal, if only because it’s symbolic of a general aura of hypocrisy that has descended over politics lately.  I’m getting tired of this administration, the Democratic party, and the Left in general trying to hold all of us to moral and ethical standards that they not only do not live up to themselves, but actively subvert whenever they think that they can get away with it.  These people think that the rules somehow don’t apply to them any more, just because they happened to win two Congressional election cycles in a row and currently hold the White House.

And I guess that I’m getting tired of them lying all the time, all the while assuming that we’re too stupid to notice.
