RIP, Adam Yauch.

Well, f*ck.

Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys, aka MCA, has passed away at age 47. He was diagnosed with cancer of his salivary gland in 2009.

A vocalist and bass player, Yauch co-founded the group in 1979 along with “Mike D” Diamond and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horowitz. Their music was an innovative hybrid of hardcore punk and hip-hop. Albums like Licensed to Ill, Paul’s Boutique, Check Your Head and Hello Nasty cemented their place among the most popular acts of the last 25 years. They reportedly sold more than 20 million albums domestically and 4o million worldwide.

Via AoSHQ. Guess that Steve Jackson Games going to have to revise Car Wars, now… what?  No, the Beastie Boys had cameos in that game world: they started a biker gang after the Food Riots started/will start, a few years from now.  Did quite well for themselves out it, too.  At least, by Car Wars standards.

Seriously, this is sad news: 47 is far too young, cancer is awful, and I liked the band.

  1. Hey, they cut off his head in preparation for his big tour in 3000, I’m sure that Gold Cross will be able to get some useable cell samples from that.
