What the National Guard flap tells us about Bloomberg (who btw endorsed Obama).

This is from yesterday, but it bears noting:

Mayor Bloomberg has snubbed Borough President Markowitz’s impassioned plea to bring the National Guard to Hurricane Sandy-scarred Brooklyn — arguing that approving the Beep’s request would be a waste of federal manpower and turn the borough into a police state.

“We don’t need it,” Mayor Bloomberg said on Wednesday during a press update on the city’s ongoing Hurricane Sandy cleanup. “The NYPD is the only people we want on the street with guns.”

Because apparently the National Guard can’t be trusted with them.  Anyway, here’s what this incident tells us about the difference between Mayor Mike Bloomberg and his predecessor Rudy Giuliani.  Rudy Giuliani wanted to be Mayor of New York City because then he’d get to be the Mayor of New York City – which he clearly thought was one the absolute best gigs to have, ever.  Mike Bloomberg wanted to be Mayor of New York City because then he’d be a politician of sufficient stature so as to be able to try to grab your guns.

So I think that Mike Bloomberg – and Barack Obama, the guy that he endorsed – should shut up about whatever hobbyhorse they’re trying to ride this week and instead get back to help getting the Tri-State area back up and running.

  1. Blooming idiot, that’s what he is. I have a hard time feeling sympathy for the people who put him in office. They may deserve better, but that isn’t what they voted for……

  2. qixlqatl – Exactly my thoughts… NYC dwellers deserve incompetent leadership. My heart goes out to the right people who are getting screwed by the incompetence.

    1. I wouldn’t wish incompetent leadership in a crisis situation on them, it’s just an unfortunate byproduct of their own bad choice. To quote John Wayne: “Life is hard. It’s harder if your stupid.”

PS: This new reply feature that came with registration is pretty cool. 😉

  3. Hoping the people of NYC will finally encourage Nanny Bloomberg to find some other way to be annoying. NY State Supreme Court, for instance.
