Harry Reid concurs with Ted Cruz: Dianne Feinstein is a blithering idiot.

I am, of course, inferring that from context.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has decided that a proposed assault weapons ban won’t be part of a gun control bill the Senate plans to debate next month, the sponsor of the ban said Tuesday, a decision that means the ban stands little chance of survival.

Instead, Sen. Dianne Feinstein said she will be able to offer her ban on the military-style firearms as an amendment. Feinstein is all but certain to need 60 votes from the 100-member Senate to prevail, but she faces solid Republican opposition and likely defections from some moderate Democrats.

“I very much regret it,” Feinstein, D-Calif., told reporters of Reid’s decision. “I tried my best.”

Yes, I’m sure that Feinstein did, for what it’s worth.  And I suppose that she meant well, or she at least meant something*.  But the fact of the matter is that it was demonstrated last week by Senator Ted Cruz – you know, the Harvard/Princeton-trained lawyer who’s argued and won cases before the US Supreme Court – that Dianne Feinstein doesn’t really understand either guns or the Second Amendment, and that has an effect on one’s effectiveness.  Whether or not that also happens to have an adverse effect on one’s ‘legacy:’ I mean, I’m kind of sorry that her signature legislation – the 1994 ‘assault weapons ban’ – turned out to be both useless AND unnecessary.  But sometimes that’s how things go down.

Anyway, I hope Dianne Feinstein enjoys her next (and h0pefully last) term doing nothing really worthwhile in the Senate.  Because, really, she crested some time ago.

*Robert Anton Wilson, I believe.  I presume that Feinstein will recognize the name; Wilson was, I understand, quite fond of San Francisco.

  1. Finding CCWCooke’s shorthand useful these days–I’m paraphrasing–‘an emotional response that does precisely nothing.’ Opportunistic ghouls, the lot of them.

  2. Does anyone suspect the next senator from CA will be any better than the current one?

  3. I guess Harry Reid ought to be extremely familiar what an idiotic windbag looks like. I mean I guess he owns a mirror.
