Rep. David Camp is annoying the IRS employee union.

First off, yes, I know: “IRS employee union” are three words that should never, ever have been allowed to form a coherent phrase in English in the first place.  So stipulated; but it happened.  So at least be comforted by the thought that representatives of such an affront to good sense are unhappy at the threat of making the federal government use the same exchange system as everybody else*.

IRS employees have a prominent role in Obamacare, but their union wants no part of the law.

National Taxpayer Employee Union officials are urging members to write their congressional representatives in opposition to receiving coverage through President Obama’s health care law.

The union leaders are providing members with a form letter to send to the congressmen that says “I am very concerned about legislation that has been introduced by Congressman Dave Camp to push federal employees out of the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program and into the insurance exchanges established under the Affordable Care Act.”

Two things:

  1. I don’t really think the Republican party is overly concerned with the offended sensibilities of a notoriously Democratic-leaning demographic that is unhappy at the thought that they’d actually – shock, surprise! – be forced to abide by the same Obamacare restrictions as the rest of us.
  2. Hey!  I thought that the IRS was supposed to be above partisanship.

*You know, for such a supposedly self-evidently wonderful law, there’s an awful lot of mandates and penalties and attempts to avoid compliance involved with it.  You’d almost think that people hated Obamacare with the fury of a thousand burning suns, or something**.

**Full disclosure: I’m pretty sure that passing Rep. Camp’s bill would have an adverse effect on my family’s health insurance situation.  So be it: Obamacare is an abomination.

  1. Rep. Camp is far kinder than I am.

I’d have transferred all federal employees (excepting the DoD and VA) onto the Bureau of Indian Affairs plan.

    1. Modern BIA, or 19th century BIA, given express instruction to see that the depredations on Americans stop?

      1. Doesn’t matter.
        .
Today, when the funding for medical treatment runs out in July or August would be a nasty enough wake-up call, I think.

  2. The old saying “What’s good for the goose is good for the gander” comes to mind.

  3. Wouldn’t there be a moral hazard in being covered by a healthcare system that one administers and writes the regulations for?
