I tried listening to some Frank Zappa – like, decades after the last time that I did – and… well. There’s a lot of reliance on the marijuana* there in order to provide context, huh?

*NTIWKAAT, of course.
Meh. Mojo Nixon was much better.
Frank Zappa was not a drug user, he liked alcohol but he wouldn’t tolerate drug use amongst his band…
I did not know that.
I was at a Zappa concert in Baltimore in the very late 60s. Some in the audience were arrested for smoking and Frank express zero sympathy for them.
Hm, I have that Frank Zappa song on a Dr. Demento collection cd.
You’re not a philistine if you don’t like FZ. He’s an acquired taste and even then, it depends on the phase you listen to. The early “hatin’ on hippies” phase is quite entertaining (non-musically) and worked a bit like Mary Poppin’s sugar to help the medicine go down, so to speak, that is to hear the music enough for the aha! effect.
Or not: YMMV, but that’s how it was with me.
