Actually, Barack Obama is already poisonous to Democrats. Radioactive, too. Possibly even corrosive.

This statement, I admit, raised my eyebrow: “One Democratic lawmaker, who asked not to be identified, said Mr. Obama was becoming “poisonous” to the party’s candidates.”

Becoming? Barack Obama has been losing tight elections for his party since December 2008. Admittedly, back then it was more a case of Obama not wanting to spend any political capital on mere members of Congress, which I am sure was a great comfort to the Georgia and Louisiana candidates who could have used his help; but since then the races where Barack Obama’s presence was a net positive for the Democrats have been darn thin on the ground. And even if you ignore that: well, when your numbers go below 40 on a regular basis you aren’t exactly becoming poisonous. You already are poisonous; it’s just that nobody on your side wants to tell you that, because after all you probably mean well and are trying your best.

Yes.  I am laughing at the superior intellect.  Despite the best efforts of various sorts to get me to stop, mind you.

  1. To bad that poison acted so much more quickly on prosperity, opportunity and freedom……

  2. Nice classical reference.

I will point out that the “various sorts” are in error – *everything* in the public square should be open for mockery.

  3. Actually, I was hoping the Democrats would remain so full of themselves that they’d have a false sense of security.

Democrats in recent years (especially on the National Level), have demonstrated a tendency to pulling stunts that abused the power of their office to target political enemies. Based on what we’re seeing and their addiction to power, they’re going to be desperate, and I’m concerned that what we saw with the IRS might be the tip of the iceberg, so everyone needs to keep their eyes open.

  4. Don’t underestimate the power of panic as a destructive agent Garfield, it can make otherwise intelligent people do really stupid things, not to mention breaking down discipline and cohesion. The Dems are very close to the “everyone for themselves point”.

    1. I’m not underestimating panic as a destructive agent, I’m just concerned as to where they will end up lashing out. Remember the Democrats went into full panic mode following 2010, and we saw what happened with the IRS targetting conservatives.

I would be in agreement with you if the MSM wasn’t acting like a bunch of shills for the Democrats to the extent that they are now. Fact of the matter is I believe that some Democrats may believe they can get away with using the IRS as a political weapon just like they did in 2012.

      1. Yes, and they got caught, and now they’re getting spanked for it.

We (meaning anyone who is not a Progressive/Democrat) needs to keep their eyes open for the next abuse, but ..
        .
A major split between “pragmatic purple-state Dems and ultraorthodox-progressive blue-state Dems” would be *HEALTHY* at this point.

        1. Oh really, and who suffered any consequences for the IRS scandal? Who went to jail? Lois Lerner got paid vacation and then got to retire. The investigation by DoJ is a complete sham, and most of the media is trying to sweep it under the rug.

I certainly agree that Democrat infighting would be a good thing, however I really don’t see it getting that far. Democrats are more prone to “group think,” they tend to circle the wagons rather than holding their own accountable for misdeeds.

Remember, a lot of Democrats hold to the view that, “the ends justify the means.” That’s something a lot of conservatives fail to realize. To make matters worse, the mainstream media has a history of trying to sweep things under the rug so that the public remains unaware of the blatent abuses of power.

The fact the Press has been actively shilling for Obama instead of holding politicians on both sides accountable, should be a cause for alarm for everyone, it enboldens politicians to abuse their power more and more. So we really need to stay watchful and not let down our guard.

          1. The press shilling for Dems is hardly new, but it increasingly doesn’t matter because internet.
            .
Those holding “the end justifies the means” are in both parties, although most end up Progressives and therefore vote (and work and run as) Democrats.

As for the consequences to the IRS, are the only forms of punishment you can come up with “jail time”?
            .
I will happily let Lois Lerner live the rest of her life with a black mark on her record that Google et all will show anyone who looks if it means her cockroach-peers across the entire executive branch feel a chill. Shame is an effective punishment as well, even if it’s out of fashion.
