Seriously, there are some acts that would spurn fans for not being “the right kind of people”.
But those acts also have a level of pretension that I’ve not seen evidenced by Walk Off the Earth. (And for some reason, nearly everybody I’ve met who is a fan of theirs, is a Conservative of some stripe or other. I have no idea why. It’s not like they’re remaking “Taxman” or “Won’t Get Fooled Again” to appeal to us.)
I suspect it may be because the band knows how to play a remarkable number of instruments, sing coherently, and write lyrics that aren’t decadent nihilism. Plus, they’re hardcore DIY when it comes to making music videos. 🙂
