White House refuses to allow Senatorial oversight over Fed Reserve. Democrats… shrug.

I’m not exactly sure if the WSJ is actually surprised, here:

The Federal Reserve has aimed a seemingly nonstop spate of rules at the nation’s biggest banks as it tries to wring risk out of the U.S. financial system in the wake of the financial crisis.

Yet the central bank still lacks a Senate-confirmed official to formally oversee its continuing regulatory efforts.

Judging from the tone of the article author here, probably not.

I mean, it’s obvious why the White House won’t nominate a candidate: because then there would be legislative oversight. And it’s also obvious why the Democratic-controlled Senate won’t raise a stink: because it suits Harry Reid very will to contribute to a regime where everybody gets to run their little part of the federal government like it was their very own feudal kingdom. Thus it’s also obvious why no sane member of the GOP caucuses trust the Democrats; there’s absolutely no reason to, and quite a few reasons not to.

Seiously, you can’t negotiate with these people. And I don’t even mean that in an ethical sense. I mean that in a ‘they don’t understand the concept of negotiating’ sense.  It’s gone beyond frustrating and is now smack dab in the middle of ‘alarming’ territory.

  1. … The Redemption of Marco Rubio ?

p.s. No, still dead to me, just marginally less dead than Jeb Bush.

    1. I actually can forgive Marco Rubio on the immigration issue. Remember he is a decendent of people who fled a dictatorship. I think he got played by Democrats whom specialize in using appeals to emotion.

I am less willing to forgive Jeb Bush, because as a more experienced politician, he should have known better.

  2. There’s an actual rumor that Harry Reid wants to run for POTUS in 2016. I saw the article for it over the weekend, but I can’t find it now. I’ll post it if I find it again.

However if true, it would give reason for everything Reid has done up to this point.

    1. Including his recent bout of Koch Derangement Syndrome ..

Would like to see that, if it wasn’t a “quiet weekend, print anything” article…

      1. Take my comment with a huge gain of salt. After several failed attempts to find said article, I am beginning to think I imagine it under a Memorial Day Weekend sugar high.

          1. Well, there is a Reid for 2016 iPhone cover, but I’m seeing only articles saying that that Reid supports Hillary.

Oh, and fun poll: Koch beats Reid in theoretical matchup for president (although that’s an awful lot of undecided voters…)

  3. Ya know, I’d take a president in 2016 to spend the following 8 years just cleaning up the government. We need a full reorganization (and rif).

And a lot of people probably should go to jail over that time too, both as punishment and to serve as a reminder to everyone else in government that they aren’t above the law.

    1. The jail thing is tricky .. I think Ford’s handling of it in the ’70s was pretty even-pawed, overall.
      .
The problem is, as has been demonstrated *repeatedly*, anything conservatives do liberals will cargo-cult .. so if any of the Obama admin go to jail, I half expect a full-on witch hunt and mass roundups next time there’s a Dem in 1600.

      1. I didn’t make it clear, but I was referring to the lower level employees (aka career bureaucrats) that think they are 1) above the law and have broken it, 2) petty tyrants and 3) above regular citizens (really just 1 for jail, but I would bet that 2 and 3 flow easily from 1).

        1. Given the pace of world events, I’m not certain that there will be much of a US to save 🙁 .

          1. I’m with you, but if there is anything left, the appropriate word is “Lustration”. Without it, the evil days will return.

          2. Thank you, Subotai Bahadur, for getting me to learn a new word today.
            .
            Yes. Lustration, in spades.

I am again reminded of the advice of “Art Chance” for a hypothetical new governor .. “Day one, fire *everyone* you can legally fire, then fire a few more just to make your point.”

  4. Cannot have oversight as then there would be a slim chance someone might ask the FED just whence it got the wherewithal to purchase about $2.3 trillion in government debt.
