:shaking head: Real shame about Bob McDonnell.

But the man shouldn’t have broken the damn law.

Former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell was sentenced Tuesday to two years in federal prison for taking bribes to promote a dietary supplement.

The punishment was far below the 10 years prosecutors initially wanted, but still more than the community service the former Republican governor, his defense team and hundreds of supporters argued for.

…Look, he got convicted, and by all accounts it was a fair trial, so I’m not gonna play My party right or wrong on this one.  When Duke Cunningham got caught back in ’05 I advocated a perp walk, and Cunningham was an authentic war hero. If Terry McAuliffe can somehow manage so far to not get tripped up by Virginia gift laws, Bob McDonnell should have done the same thing. At that McDonnell’s getting off fairly easily: I don’t actually expect him to serve out his full sentence.

Yeah, I’m a little personally disappointed at this one.  Politically, too: McDonnell probably provided just enough of a problem for Cuccinelli and Gillespie in their races to make a difference.  Remember: first, do no harm. Just as important in politics as it is in medicine.

  1. Eh. Given the one-sided nature of the allegedly mainstream media, it should be obvious enough that “dirty Repubs” will be found and outed at the most opportune time for the Dems.

In other words, a higher standard is required, and I find that I can’t really object to that idea… although it does not endear the media to me.
