Basically, it’s Moby Dick In Space. This is not a bad thing! You can get a good deal of tension and drama in a man-vs-nature flick.
Via Run Freak Run. Just a proof of concept, but it’s definitely a watchable flick. More here for right now.

Ok, after watching this on YouTube, I can see the text and I am really disappointed with what I saw (special effects are breathtaking, so in a technical sense it looks good):
.
First Problem: This movie is set about a hundred years from now. Yeah, okay, whatever. My suspension of disbelief is already gone.
.
Second Problem: The only substance that allows FTL travel, is by harvesting “space whales” eggs? In just a hundred years time, we spread to other planets AND THEN discover FTL travel with these eggs? Really? That’s dumb on surface. And unless I am missing something here, they don’t look like they are hunting/looking for eggs.
.
Third Problem: Forced Slave Labor, eh? It is like man is going backwards, in only a hundred years! Let me guess, it is the corporations who use these poor unfortunate souls. Unoriginal. Uninspiring. Boring.
All true, but hunting GIANT SPACE WHALES. This is the sort of movie that involves a lot of people snarling into the storm.
So … Moby Dick in outer space?
.
Because that’d be cool .. weird as hell, but cool.

We’ve already had Moby Dick in space. It was called Star Trek II.
Yeah, and how many iterations of Romeo and Juliet has Hollywood done?
.
Nothing new under the sun, 1_.
.
Mew
I thought that was Star Trek IV? /sarcasm
This does not look like the dark endless maw of space. At best this looks like it takes place on a gas giant.
Turtles lay eggs on the beach… Maybe they’re space turtles.

Hmm.. Didn’t Doctor Who do a giant space whales episode a couple of years back?
Indeed they did .. with a spaceship built on top.

Man has gone backwards before, in a shorter amount of time.
Well, FTL isn’t necessary for colonization. Just a willingness to spend several generations on a spaceship until the destination.
Also these are colonies they aren’t necessarily subjected to the same institutions as Earth, in some ways mankind went backwards after finding the New World (the Atlantic Slave Trade)
