Disney to re-release original theatrical cuts of Star Wars.

Erick’s right, of course – but this happened also because the Mouse wants your money.

  1. You know, someone already did that. Look up “Star Wars Despecialized Edition”. Guess the Mouse saw how popular they were and came to the obvious conclusion.

  2. Original theatrical cuts would definitely be nice, since other than the infamous “special editions”, every single different home video version is different in ways both small and large from each other and the original theater release.

        1. I hear they pretty much revoked the entire Expanded Universe of any novel written before this year. So no Thrawn, no MaraJade, no nuthin’ that anyone *thought* happened after ROTJ.

          1. That’s my biggest issue, I’ve got a Star Wars Chronology that is now completely and utterly useless.

        2. The EU has been reset before. I’m not particularly upset over resetting the EU. My impression, having quit reading the EU during the Bush administration, is that they’d developed the storyline in ways that did not match the look and feel of the property. If they painted themselves into a corner, it is better not to keep the mess.

SW: Aftermath has a bunch of one and two star reviews from verified purchasers. Wendig didn’t like this, so he went crying homophobia to round up an SJW twitter mob to fix it. Check the sample on Amazon, and compare with prior EU stuff.

        3. They recently released a Star Wars novel to bridge the gap between the original trilogy and the new ones called “Star Wars: Aftermath” written by Chuck Wendig. The reviews after the book came out indicated that a lot of readers didn’t care for Wendig’s rather choppy writing style nor his frequent use of metaphors that don’t exist in Star Wars nor his use of the present tense to write in. And lines like “I was putting away bounties while you were still in your space diapers” didn’t help. And there was an undercurrent of “Does the author even like Star Wars? He doesn’t seem to embrace anything actually in the series” as well. In short, the early reviews were awful. (Initially pricing the ebook at the same price as the hardcover didn’t help either.)

How did Wendig react to this? He went to Twitter and basically taunted the folks who didn’t like the book and then proclaimed that the dislike of his book was just due to homophobic people who didn’t like that he added gay characters to the book. And then he asked for people to spam good reviews to fight the homophobia.

So, there’s the explanation. The lousy novel added to the “Expanded Universe? What expanded universe?” slate wiping means many disgruntled Star Wars fans.

          1. There have been gay characters in the EU before and no one gave a crap. Just further proof Wendig doesn’t actually like Star Wars.
