  1. Personally, I liked Taylor Swift a lot better when she was just a little girl from Pennsylvania trying to speak country as a second language.

    Or even when she was pushing out into poppier-sounding music, but would still write actual lyrics to go with them. “The Story of Us” is still a guilty-pleasure song. (“Now I’m standing alone in a crowded room…and I’m dying to know if it’s killing you like it’s killing me…”)

    But this Taylor Swift? Not even a pretension to country, zero lyrical interest — just another manufactured-sounding pop princess. You can keep her, and welcome.
