Hope everyone had a good Labor Day.

Ours was… functional. The sudden brake problem in the car kind of complicated things; I went out to get a feel for how bad the problem was, backed up about a foot, hit the brakes, hit the brakes REALLY HARD, said “NOPE. NOPE NOPE NOPE,” put the car in forward again, slammed on the brakes, and told my wife I’d get it to the shop tomorrow.  Which pretty much starts the timer on us having to go get a new car.  Well… a new used car. Obviously.

Still, it was nice out this weekend. Always a plus.

  1. If you’re looking for a reliable repair shop, I give a solid recommendation for Avalon Automotive in Elkridge. I got nothing for car dealers, though — those bastards have to be stepped on hard.

    1. We’re good on that: our go-to mechanic is almost too good for this world. He’s actually refused to charge me for services when I’ve had my credit card out while saying “Look, at least let me pay for your time.”

      1. You could try the evergreen: let me pay you so you can stay in business and allow me to return to you with my honor intact.

      2. Yeah, I used to have one of those ..

Pro tip – frequently, that type of mechanic will “know a guy” or “know a guy who knows a guy” as a source for reliable, cheap transportation.

Mine directed me to, I kid you not, “Vinnie – he looks a little sketchy, and he lives in a rough part of Chicago, but he’s okay, and he finds good cars.”

        1. Nah, it was nothing like that. We had a flat spare, he checked it and determined that it didn’t have a leak or anything, it just needed to be inflated, he inflated it for us and wouldn’t take any money for it. Admittedly, we’ve been customers for a while.
