Codec thinks that it’s being groomed for greater things. It thinks that it’s going to be fast-tracked for the Word of Computer Rage, provided that Codec can show the right spirit and zealotry.  And it thinks that it can and should hold lots of grudges over the way that Codec’s fellow demons are being willfully blind about admitting that the Shedite has a great and glorious future… greatness. And glory.

In reality: the Shedite was created pretty explicitly to give the forces of Heaven something to actually shoot at.  Contrary to popular belief – in every plane of existence – Hell does not actually need to do anything to make computers imperfect, or to make humans become enraged when computers remain stubbornly imperfect in their presence.  It’s nice when those things happen, but they’re going to happen whether or not a demon is involved, and they’ll happen at an acceptably reliable and useful rate.  Basic efficiency suggests that a personalized demonic oversight of the process is unnecessary.

Unfortunately for Codec, basic efficiency also suggests that having one designated target for the universe’s ire is optimal. Particularly when the target has been carefully sculpted into being arrogant, obnoxious, forward, and surprisingly decent in celestial combat (well, for a newly-minted demon, at least). The goal is not so much to have Codec get destroyed as it is to have it get smacked around a lot.  But if the Shedite does get soul-killed, well, that’s the way the source code crashes.

Codec is equivalent in power to a starting player character.
