Secret World Legends comes to Steam on 07/31/2017.

Secret World Legends is free-to-play, but you’ll want to subscribe. You’ll be able to play and win the game without spending a dime, mind you – but having a monthly membership gives enough benefits to be worth it, assuming of course that you like conspiracy-horror shared game with fiendishly complicated investigation missions and a cheerful willingness to throw everything into the mix.  And I do mean everything.

Here is the SWL fact sheet for navigating the Steam launch.  You may want to take a look at it.  The process might be a little… complicated.

  1. I’ve been mucking around with the game, but…

I’m not currently a subscriber due to my current financial situation, so this might not be the case for subscribers (I have a friend who’s got the lifetime thing, but I haven’t had a chance to compare notes with him yet). But the primary problem I have with the game right now is the method of leveling up equipment. I get a green item leveled up. Then I have to stop leveling that item up to level another green item up. Then I combine those two items to get a blue item. Then I level up the blue item. When that maxes out, I have to stop. Then I level up another green item. When that item’s maxed out, I level up another green item. Then I combine the two green items to create a blue item, which I level up. Once that second blue item is maxed out, then I can combine it with the first blue item to create a purple item. Then I level up that purple item…

There’s one more tier beyond that.

Basically, you max out the level on an item, and all progression in that slot comes to a screeching halt while you duplicate the work that went into leveling that item up in the first place. I know that there are items that you can “sub in” for the second piece of equipment (I somehow ended up with both a blue and purple item that can be fused with talismans; can’t remember where it came from). But if you don’t have one of those, then you’re in for a very long slog.

And from what I’ve heard, the Elite dungeons (which I haven’t run yet) don’t speed up the process at all.

Additionally, if you want to play a different role in the party (for instance, you leveled up to 50 as DPS, and want to shift to tanking), then you have to start the whole process over again for a completely new set of weapons and talismans.

Additionally, while over on the Reddit, they noted that the big spectacular reward for getting the last daily login reward was… an item bag with a single piece of random green gear – i.e. the kind of thing you get multiples of from completing any of the missions in the game. That needs to be changed.

    1. I have a lifetime membership grandfathered in from TSW, and that and the legacy account gives me a bit of a leg’s-up. And the grind really is a PitA. However, getting a Cache key daily speeds up the equipment grind something decent.
