Is the new Predator… kind of a comedy? [NSFW]

The trailer (content warning)…

…kind of implies it.  Not that I’d object to a Predator flick with a lot of dark humor in it, but as Geeks Are Sexy notes: they brought their dogs? Also, I have to wonder if anybody in the DoD in that universe is going Just tacnuke the SOBs the next time they show up in the woods.  Stealth mode your way out of that, jackwagons.

I’m only a quarter joking.  Humans are not good to eat, and not good to hunt. I’ll irradiate some wetlands if that’s what necessary to establish this particular data point, ya, you betcha.

  1. The ad played on TV the other day while I was doing something nearby, so I got the semi-distracted version of it. And I kept mentally flipping between “it’s a new silly comedy movie” and “that looks like the thermographic from Predator”. And then the ad ended and put the Predator logo up on the screen. So I’m not sure what to think of it.

  2. Yvonne Strahovski in a Predator movie? Along with Olivia Munn?

    OK, they got my interest.

  3. Based on the trailer, I’m guessing that one of the plot points will go something like this –

1.) Predators are transporting a prisoner. They stop on Earth to get some hunting in before they deliver their prisoner (because wouldn’t *you* stop and do a little hunting when you had a prisoner to transport to a prison world?).
2.) Prisoner gets loose and escapes, likely due to humans refusing to be good prey and just die (as usual; ungrateful jerks!).
3.) Prisoner is either unable or unwilling to leave Earth.
4.) More Predators arrive to track down the prisoner. They bring dog-like animals with them to track the prisoner.
