Tweet of the Day, How Long Can You Last Watching This Video Before You Lose it? edition.

I made it to 1:18.

(Via @EsotericCD) I respectfully suggest that most of you will not get much farther than that. Some of you — the ones who still remember how to drink properly — will start losing your gorge earlier. But 1:18 is the flashpoint.

  1. I made it through the whole thing, but I think that’s cuz I don’t drink hard liquor. 1. Man… she uses a LOT of liquor 2. Man… she spills a LOOOOOOOT of liquor…

      1. Made it all the way through, same reason.

I have no idea what a proper old fashioned looks like, but ..
        .
I do know I’ve never seen a bartender use a spoon and a glass as a mortar and pestle ..
        .
I’ve never seen an old fashioned professionally served in anything other than a lowball or short tumbler .. sometimes called an “old fashioned tumbler”.
        .
I have run across more than one article where millennials discover their grandparents’ drink recipe books and realize grandma and granddad drank some tasty stuff (and didn’t pass it down..)
        .
I suggest this is the more normal version of the above .. the millennial in the video sees “lowball glass” and says “glass, whatever” or “mix well” and thinks “use a spoon!”…

p.s. do you suppose she could make an alien urine sample?

p.p.s. yes, there is such a thing, and yes, I’ve seen one ordered .. https://tipsybartender.com/recipe/alien-urine-sample/

  2. Wow, where to begin?
1, I must be a glutton for punishment because I finished the video, though I almost turned it off after 2 seconds when she suggested bourbon not rye
2, she would cost a bar a lot of money with her definition of 3 oz

  3. Hell I was annoyed from jump. Who uses a pint glass for anything but beer? I would definitely drink at her bar though. Three ounces indeed. On the other hand, who drinks Jim Beam?

    1. … people who don’t drink in bars?
      .
I dunno .. never really gave it much thought.

  4. I watched the whole thing. That “bartender” was attractive. The only thing that was strange to me was when she tried to pour something out of an empty bottle, and then she went on with the rest of the drink like that was a normal thing to do. I had no idea that pretending was an important part of a bartender’s job. You learn something new every day, I suppose.

  5. At the end, it says “requests at mahalo.com”. Perhaps somebody should request that she mix drinks properly. I don’t know enough to form an opinion, myself.

  6. I did some googling, and it looks like the video’s around 10 years old. When I was actually looking for Old-Fashioned recipes 10-15 years ago, the advice that you should muddle all the fruit was not uncommon. Hell of a 3-ounce pour, though, and the mixing process is … something.

  7. I love this comment: “so, just put a sugar cube and cherry in your mouth and drink a 20 count of bourbon from the bottle. that really is easy.”
