Quote of the Day, Somebody Let The Suits Get At The Joker Script edition.

Hey, does this bit about the new Joker movie sound familiar, kids?

“We didn’t follow anything from the comic-books, which people are gonna be mad about. We just wrote our own version of where a guy like Joker might come from. That’s what was interesting to me. We’re not even doing Joker, but the story of becoming Joker. It’s about this man.”

Ah, yes: that glorious time before the Age of Stan, when Hollywood studios lived by the principle that all you needed for a superhero movie was the name, and maybe a recognizable variant of the costume. I mean, it worked for Catwoman, right? …No? How about Elektra? Howard the Duck? Erm. Wait, Wanted! Wanted didn’t suck, and it completely went off of the rails from the comic. …Which was much better than the movie, and they should have done that instead, right*.

Still! How bad could it be, really… no! No, no, a thousand times no! I will not link to Batman and Robin! I have to draw the line somewhere.

*ANNOUNCER: “Researchers have yet to find an alternate timeline where Marvel and DC would have ever, ever, ever permitted a faithful movie adaptation of the Wanted comic book series. Many say that they never will.”

  1. There’s .. possibilities .. and deliberate ambiguity ..

That said, I will not – naturally – get the movie I’d like .. one where the first 2 acts follow this twisty plot of a failed comedian turning to crime .. in a rotten-to-the-core Gotham, (complete with BatSignal) .. with all the indications that he becomes The Joker .. only to have the actual Joker swoop in at the stat of act 3 .. killing off the rival underworld figures who’d set the comedian up (perhaps stopping a plot to murder the comedians’ family?) in an attempt to create a “safer Joker”…

  2. They’ve already did an animated adaptation of The Killing Joke and the main character is Jim Gordon rather than either Batman or Joker.

Wait a minute…are you growing a CONSCIENCE??? NOW???

Looking at the Amazon ads, I notice that there is a director’s cut of Elektra. No, NO! I will NOT…

    1. I think we have stumbled upon Moe’s dark secret: I see Howard the Duck, Elektra (DC), Suicide Squad, Daredevil, Batman Returns and… Producing great sound for film and video(?)

Moe just wants to see Amazon dance…

  4. I think I’ve got a DVD copy of “Elektra” laying around.

What? It was the dark ages of comic book movies, and I had liked the actress on Alias.

Little did I know that years later the character would show up in a Daredevil TV series and be even more enjoyable (let alone that they’d make a Defenders series). Or that Aquaman would get a movie and it would not suck!

Speaking of Defenders, I’m still kind of sad that they never got the crazy original lineup with Hulk, Doctor Strange and Namor.
