JOKER is going to be a supremely weird flick.
The fundamental X-Factor here is that Joaquin Phoenix is not, and I don’t mean this in an offensive or derogatory way, entirely sane. I don’t think that he’s dangerous, and he’s clearly functional, but he’s likely to get extra-deep into this character. Deeper than I’d particularly like to go in his shoes, to be certain.
This does not exactly promise that the movie will not suck. But it does suggest that it might not suck, in the sense that you will get your money’s worth out of watching it. Although a lot of people will leave the theater wondering what in God’s name they just watched. I probably will be wondering that, myself.
