  1. Yes.

It tracks fairly closely to the books, which do dip a bit in the middle volumes, but are great later on.

    1. I have tried, twice now, to watch The Expanse. Got through the first two episodes just fine but .. didn’t care enough about the characters to go further.

It’s very pretty, the physics seem mostly reasonable, but .. it lacks something important.

      Does it get better, Jeff?

      1. I takes much of the first season to really hit it’s stride, not unlike other SciFi shows. (Looks at TNG).

My main struggle with it is sharing the DC Movie approach of Dark-n’-Gritty and a firm belief that there are no real “good” guys.

  2. Long time listener; first-time caller.

Yes, you should watch The Expanse. The book authors are heavily involved, and for the most part have managed to keep the series on track with the overall story arc. A few sub-plots and supporting characters have been condensed or combined respectively, understandable in a 1:1 book to season adaptation.

The series does fair justice in its depiction of pre-Warp science, physics and colonization. The eventual McGuffin changes the rules for itself, but humanity stays on track.

There are similarities to other pre-Warp fiction works, with Anthony’s “Bio of a Space Tyrant”, and Firefly immediately coming to mind.

There’s also a decent board game rendition.

  3. I’ve heard it’s good.
I keep meaning to watch it when I have the time.
But the last Sci-Fi show I got to reliably watch was Fringe. So…
