Day 12, TINSEL RAIN NaNoWriMo: 26229/60000.

Back to work! After all the stuff that happened today, of course. But we must continue on!

When I left the bar, it was raining, hard. In this town, the rains always come late at night. It’s easier that way, since cloudy days can be hell on people’s tanning schedules. Sunny days and rain-swept nights; you can set your clocks to the schedule. That schedule saved my bacon. Or maybe stopped me from becoming bacon.

You ever hear a fireball when it’s being aimed at you? People like to say that you’ll never hear the one that gets you. Yeah, no, it doesn’t work like that. You can hear the hiss any which way, but it ain’t gonna matter, because by the time you do the damned thing is moving faster than you can dodge.

The funny thing, though; if you get hit in the chest or the limbs, you can maybe come out of it all right. Nobody likes to get hit with a bunch of fire, but the flames go away real fast when it hits. Most clothes won’t catch right away. What you got to really worry about is a shot to the head; plenty of stuff up there to burn, and the fireball that had come out of the night was aimed right at my noggin.
