Which I understand is one of the good-naturedly exasperated nicknames that Mexican-Americans often have for Cinco de Mayo. I don’t normally quote Urban Dictionary, but this seems spot-on:
I can sympathize, since my own ethnic minority went through this decades ago. It’s just how groups assimilate in this country: your holiday gets appropriated, and then people start getting [expletive deleted]faced celebrating it. I recommend just leaning into it, because you won’t have a choice anyway…
My wife and I long ago started referring to St Patrick’s Day as “Amateur Night”. If my Spanish were better, I’d use the same phrase today (only, in Spanish, of course).
