The Call of Cthulhu Classic Kickstarter.

Specifically, the forty year anniversary reprinting of the original boxed edition of the Call Of Cthulhu RPG. This is old-school stuff, friends: Chaosium scanned near-mint versions of the originals, cleaned them up, added little extras, and now here it is. I should also note that I checked, and Chaosium is planning to print this in Europe: i.e., not via slave labor. We all remember the wretched Sassoon Files affair, I’m sure…

  1. Finally got around to playing Outer Worlds over the past couple weeks.

    My nutshell review:
    Good, but ultimately disappointing.
It’s ultimately too self-aware for emotional beats to land anything but a glancing blow.

Don’t get me wrong, the humor is clever. There were even a couple of times when I was amazed by the audacity.
But it’s hard to get emotionally invested in an obvious farce.

    A couple of minor nitpicks:
I would have liked snappier gunplay. (But considering that I’m old and slow, and could still consistently land three headshots in bullettime, this may well have been an intentional game balance choice.)
The different damage types could have used better explanations. (You can experiment, and see the results in the little damage numbers. Unfortunately, my visual processing system considers them noise and aggressively filters them out.)
Marking enemies in the HUD. If I’ve looked at an enemy through a magnified rifle sight for a couple of seconds, mark them. I know they’re there.
The draw distance is too short for the 6x scope to be very useful. It’s darned annoying to glass an area, and then have enemies spawn in when you get closer.
