Yeah, I got nothing (Open Thread).

What’s new with you folks?

PS: It was a slow week! All the interesting stuff was stuff that wasn’t happening, like new shows or whatnot. I’m trying not to clickbait, okay?

  1. Am I the only person who isn’t all that impressed with “What If?” I keep waiting for an episode that will make me glad I watched it, but so far, the series has disappointed me. Too much preaching, not enough superhero fights, I think.

      1. Same.

Part of the problem is .. after over a decade of this cinematic tour de force .. these aren’t the questions I’m asking… they aren’t the questions I’ve ever heard anyone else ask either.

It’s … sad, in a way. They’re trying to be fun romps but .. they’re not catching the spark .. they’re not *engaging* the audience the way Loki or Wandavision or even Falcon and Winter Soldier did.

  2. I just watched the Zombie episode and the Killmonger Defeats Everybody episode. The Zombie one wasn’t entirely horrible. The Killmonger one just reminded me again why I think Wakanda is dumb. Imagine living in a technologically advanced society that decided that the phalanx is the last word in military tactics. And then imagine that another technologically advanced civilization built a bunch of giant robots partially based on technology stolen from the first civilization, armed these robots with guns and then had THEM march in a phalanx too.

Well, I don’t have to imagine it, because the people who came up with Wakanda imagined it. And it’s dumb.

    1. That’s because phalanxes film really well .. and Hollywood has a long tradition of filming them too.

Caracole doesn’t film well. Pike charges do.
Squad level assault tactics film okay, company assaults don’t.

So .. yeah, it’s dumb .. but it’s dumb that looks good.
