Patreon Microfiction: Just Before The Beginning Of The End.

Well. They meant well. …Which really is the worst thing in the English language that you can say about someone. Also: “Just Before The Beginning Of The End” may or may not be canonically part of the Fermi Resolution, but it’s not currently contradicting it.

  1. Music = Magic, sure.
In most cases it is a wild, primal magic – unfocused, unharnessed, unpredictable. That’s the magic that can move a soccer stadium from cheering camaraderie to cacophonous chaos. It’s also the magic of calming carolers on a windless winter’s eve.
When directed, though? When refined and given purpose? Then you can get the miracles of the Mass from resonant Gregorians, or you could get the rage of the rabble assembled at the Reichstag.

Don’t idly pluck strings or tinkle keys lest something untoward be summoned.

  2. Am I supposed to see this as being recorded on a fragment of a cassette tape that was found in the center of a magical fallout zone? Because there isn’t very far from the end of that to “and now for a demonstration of my power”. If we learn nothing else from Spiderman, let us learn that people who try to cast spells while holding a conversation inevitably end up causing magical mayhem.

It’s the Army of the 12 (magical) Monkeys
