The surprisingly promising NOPE trailer.

I have yet to get into Jordan Peele films. I have a complicated relationship with horror flicks in that I don’t like most of them, for reasons which are difficult for me to articulate properly. I just know when I might like one, that’s all.

NOPE, I might like. I’m not sure. Must ponder further.

  1. Because most of them are stupid?
And mistake jump scares and gross outs for horror?
Because of the pathological need to show and explain the monster?

Take Candyman. It’s got great atmosphere. The scary vignettes work. It just makes no frelling sense. There’s not even fever dream logic in place. But the fans of horror movies loved it.

Compare that to Apt Pupil. There is very little action in the film. Fans of horror movies dismissed it as “boring”. But it was great horror with a slow burn and a pitch perfect ending (which was admittedly a radical departure from what King wrote in the short story).
