Jim snorted. “Have you heard how the two we captured talk? They sound like they swallowed a GoodSay dictionary. It’s actively painful to listen to.”

“That’s… odd. The two prisoners are young, right?”

“We think so, yeah. Short and skinny, at least. They probably lost a couple of pounds of grime from the showers, too.” Jim looked at her. “You think there’s something to that?”

“Perhaps. People fluent in GoodSay weren’t ever really common. Most of the gallowglasses and sepoys we captured still spoke English, and they were the most motivated to learn the Invaders’ language. Believe it or not, it’s hard for adults to turn off their minds enough to think in GoodSay.”

“So if we’ve got two kids who are fluent… right, I don’t like where that’s going.” Jim activated his phon. “Hey, Juleen? It’s Jim, from the IRO… no, you don’t have to use the title… anyway. You know those two sepoys we brought in this morning? Are they being deprogrammed, or just detoxed?  Yeah, I can hold.” He looked over at Alex. “I’m thinking of ordering a One-Oh-One on the both of them. What do you think?”

Alex nodded. “Considering everything? Yes. It may shake something loose. The chance is enough to justify the cost, at any rate.”
