The lights on the Blobmart came back on, about an hour into my shift. We didn’t get gravity or atmosphere back, but at least we can turn off all the spotlights. Vacuum or not, Amalgamation lighting tech is better than ours, surprise surprise.

I don’t like the new lights, though. They’re dimmer and more yellow than human-standard, which suggests some stuff about the planet the aliens were from. I’m finding that interesting, when I’m not thinking about how weirdly the light shifts, and how every so often there’s a shadow that really shouldn’t be in that particular location. Supposedly you get over constantly being surrounded by incomprehensible alien physics; something about the human mind’s basic inability to correlate all its contents. I’m not sure. I didn’t take any psychology classes in college.

Just having power was weird, though. When I called, Emily explained that the new senior tech was taking it slow. “Since the ship systems could not handle us turning on everything at once,” she said, “Technician Weathers decided to start with the most critical system first, and see what happened. Power gives us lights, and hopefully access to whatever part of the computer network the aliens allowed probationary species like ourselves to access.”
